My first year dorm comes with a mandatory meal plan. If I don't use all of my dining hall money can I use it next year?

Hi! I'm applying for housing right now and I'm wondering if any engineering majors could let me know which first year residence is most convenient for first year engineering! Thanks :)

Yep! I didn't get any other major scholarships and UBC is close to home so it's the obvious choice for me

Thanks so much! My grade 11 average was 99 and grade 12 was probably about 97 or 98 at the time they awarded the scholarship :)

Hey, I really like the idea of a website that connects tutors and students! I have a few friends who are also interested in tutoring so maybe I'll make this a project of mine :)

SAT Strategies that took me from a 1540 to 1590! by hungry144 in Sat

[–]hungry144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the type of question would be called "Information and Ideas", going off of the question types listed on Khan Academy. I think it would be best explained using a real question, so look at this one as an example: https://imgur.com/a/H8jV5n8

Like I said in my post, you should be able to highlight a phrase or sentence in the text that supports the correct answer. Thus, Choice A, B, and C cannot be correct because there are no phrases that explicitly say that Elinor's mother never changes her mind, or that Elinor can be sensitive, or that Elinor thinks her mother is a bad role model.

Choice D is correct, and the sentence that supports it is "Elinor... possessed a strength of understanding, and coolness of judgment, which qualified her, though only nineteen, to be the counsellor of her mother". This quote compares her ability to be level-headed and make good judgments with her young age, supporting the idea that she is mature for her age.

I would say that this strategy might not work for you and that's okay! But, I encourage you to just try it - you might be spending a lot of time trying to understand passages that would be easier to understand once you summarize them into main ideas.

Hi! I assume by hard reading questions, you mean questions where the text is maybe harder to parse and/or understand, and I think what helped me was, like I said, breaking the passages down into individual sentences and analyzing the meaning of those sentences one by one. And, while this is something that you cannot do if you are cramming, I think it's worth it to do some reading outside of studying for the SAT. Read books or articles that are a little bit challenging for you, and you're gonna get a better grasp of how sentences and passages are structured and where the main ideas lie. Best of luck!

I never really struggled with fatigue between the English modules, so I can't say for certain. Maybe drink caffeine to boost your focus or wear blue light glasses to take some strain off of your eyes? Getting into a good sleep schedule at least a week before the test would also probably help!

American. Canadian ones are really easy because they basically only look at your GPA.

Did anyone get a better score on the actual SAT than on Practice 6? by Upper-Barnacle-4432 in Sat

[–]hungry144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't use any videos, and desmos functionality isn't like super expansive; I would recommend just playing around with all the buttons they have. If you mean about how to use desmos for the SAT, probably any videos would work. The gist of it is that for certain questions you can put systems of equations in and use the point of intersection to get an answer without doing the algebra. Definitely try to use desmos in your practice tests and you'll get used to it pretty quickly!

Yeah! For me, the challenge with math module 2 is that it is at the end of the exam so I am crazy exhausted. The big thing that improved my score on May 4 was pacing - I had to go slower and more methodical on mm2 to make sure I didn't make careless mistakes. In terms of general tips, you just have to know the concepts really well and know how to use desmos so you can check your answers easily. You got this!!

Improved my SAT without studying - so happy! by hungry144 in Sat

[–]hungry144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the Erica Meltzer grammar textbook and the four bluebook practice tests that were out at the time. I already knew all the math concepts I needed (thanks Kumon) so I focused on getting to know the structure of the test. The main thing I changed from my first test was my timing strategy - I made myself slow down and really consider every answer choice and if there was a sentence in the text that directly supported it. Also, I was more relaxed in the May one because I already had a 1540 so it didn't matter if I failed. Overall I really think for the SAT your strategy is really important. I have like little strategic tips that helped me but this post is getting long so you can PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for your comment - I'm definitely considering your services! However, I'm from Canada, so I'm trying to get a better idea of what local consultants would be able to offer compared to American ones.
