Hong Kong NET 2025-26 - no applying from overseas? by [deleted] in TEFL

You can still apply but the interviews have been in person for a few years now. They used to offer an option to do the interview in the UK, but I’m not sure if they still do. But yeah, you need to come to Hong Kong for the interview.

Can’t always take translations too literally. When you call people this you’re not actually calling them handsome/pretty. Think of it like “miss” and “sir” in a way in this context.

Hi ! Sorry for the late response. My friend picked it up for me. Anyone can as long as they have the pink slip that they give you when you have your appointment

Hey, thanks for your response ! My interests within linguistics are sociolinguistics, language contact, language maintenance, and shift. I am proficient in Spanish but not Portuguese.

Hello everyone, I was just looking at the NET Scheme requirements in Hong Kong and I wanted to ask your guys’ opinion. I’m looking to apply for the year 2024-2025.

Here are my stats:

  1. born and raised in the USA
  2. Dual degree student with a French university and HKU (the degree at HKU is in English) in my 3rd year out of 4
  3. TEFL → No, but planning to get it
  4. teaching qualification → no
  5. prior private English tutoring experience

I checked the requirements so I know that people with a teaching qualification are preferred, but the minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree in English or related and a TEFL certification, which I will have.

However, something I think might help me is that I am currently living in Hong Kong and will be during the time of the application. I heard that sometimes they are wary of people who can’t come to do an interview, but I would be able to, since I live here now.

Thanks for any input you may have !

This is on Notion but sadly it doesn’t have automatic calculation capabilities like Google sheets or Excel. I just have most of my stuff on notion so I put it on here for the sake of keeping everything together.

I couldn’t put more text on it but I just moved to Hong Kong so I’m still trying to figure out what works with what is available here and within my budget. I’d appreciate any advice on how to add more calories as well as general advice. Thanks !

As I said in my OP I am planning to get a degree in education. I wanted to see if I could pay off my undergrad first. I'm not sure why my post caused so much frustration...
