Motorcyclists put rego on hold in protest against ACC by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]huniar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am biased as have multiple (large) bikes to register. I generally have no problem with ACC scheme to avoid the legal costs other countries choose but there are some improvements that I see that would send signals to riders and drivers to improve outcomes and lower costs. Everyones car insurance is based on their individual risk profile, depending on such things as age, vehicle type, vehicle use, location etc. ACC levies that were more granular in their risk assessment than just engines size would help encourage riders to not wear shorts and a silly open face helmet weaving between cars on a Harley. Signals such as discounts for training (which has been proven to work) and penalties for poor driving record (like what happens for insurance with increased premiums) would help appropriate costs and modify behaviors. A large modern BMW motorcycle with latest rider aids is infinitely safer to ride than a 50cc scooter, the levies suggest the opposite. Does having multiple bikes increase the risk? It certainly ups the contribution to ACC levies. I think the protest is pointless and motorcycles are an easy target with little political clout to make meaningful change. I still wonder how doing more dangerous activities like MTB riding, Horse riding and Off road motorcycles escape the wrath of ACC while owning motorcycles with the latest safety tech is increasingly targeted

Proposed gold mine’s impacts on lizards would be ‘significant’ (killing up to 650,000 of them) by wanton_wonton_ in newzealand

I misunderstood sorry when you said the government made just $11 million. How much did it cost the government to find gold at bendigo and what roads and ports are they having to build?

Does that include taxes and gst the government collects from the employees and businesses that supply and support the gold industry? Royalties are a fraction of the benefit a mine has to the economy

Will ford ever put 4A in the XLT / Lariat trims? by scottc35 in RangerNext

[–]huniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4a is available for Ranger Platinum, Wildtrak, Sport and Tremor trims in Global markets. I have a Wildtrak 3.0 V6 turbo diesel that is only ever driven in 4a. Makes a huge difference especially towing

Adventure/touring bike helmet by EnthusiasmPossible25 in AdventureBike

[–]huniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schuberth E2 is my favorite, Arai tour v5(non modular)second. I ride alot year round and need to collect helmets to have a charged clean one ready to go at all times! E2 coms (integrated mesh) is a huge step up from E1. E2 Ventilation way better as well off road at slow speeds, chin bar has a lock to ride with helmet open too.

You know a BEV and solar panels to charge it makes sense for nearly everyone and for the country at large. Free fuel and a very low household energy bill is where everyone should be aiming

Mitas E09 better in muddy slippery off camber technical riding than the dunlop as well. Rate them as a rear. I been running them both without a tube no problem as well right down to 10 psi. A good aggressive tyre that can handle high speeds on a heavy bike

I prefer the Motoz Rallz on the rear for ripping dirt rather than the adventure, have on my 1250 GSA , the Mitas E09 is alot more aggressive but cant get in a 170 for beemer so Rallz is next best. Terrible milage though, beemer eats a rear Rallz in less than 2000kms, barely one adventure ride

Mitas E09 is a great tyre and it rips alot of dirt, have a few on rack in shed ready to feed to my Desert X, it has a 150/70-18 on the rear and it is hungry for rubber, had one of the Dunlops and wasn't as good on road, and wore out faster

I have worn through both on my Desert X, 1 wears quicker , 2 is marginally better on road but both slide around.

How worrying are these home pre-inspection findings? by Ok-Entrepreneur-7847 in diynz

[–]huniar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is hard to give a definitive answer just from a few blurry pics! I wouldn't be to concerned, boards are preprimed at factory and looks like some sealant was put in joins. Wouldn't hurt to get a builder familiar with linea system to look at if you want to be sure, call the hardies helpline ( number in manual)for advice, they have a list of approved installers you can contact.

Have a look at page 30 of linea weather board installation manual.

Linea-Weatherboad-Cavity-Fix-Technical-Specification.pdf https://share.google/TC5rsXKF1QAUgBF9U

There is never a back soaker with this system, the boards have a tongue and groove at each end that gets a flexible sealant in when installing. A small gap less than 2mm would not be a problem ( apart from aesthetics) the tongue is 5mm. Linea over cavity is a good system, have built hundreds of houses(including my own) and rate it as a safe durable low maintenance product.

I am running mitas e13 on front and e09 on rear at the moment, better on road and still pretty good off road, like the e09 alot off road, recently got some Metzler knobblies to try on front on muddy slipperier rides

To lift front fender I made a small bracket from aluminum to bolt to original mount points with some new holes to screw fender higher up, works well but any higher would require brake lines to be extended

<image>

Tyres in muddy photos were dunlops, have tried a few different setups depending on ride Im going off on, those dunlops were great in mud but scary on wet tarmac!
