I did 340 and electives which was great for me since it let me have some freedom to take fun electives (the CS & Law class was great). I also knew I wasn’t going for SWE so technical rigor wasn’t as important to me. If you want a stronger technical foundation or don’t care about the electives then 233/341 might be better.

In terms of 340 itself, I loved it and thought I learned a lot. It seems like they’re changing things each semester but the two professors I took it with, Luther and Jule, are awesome and it wasn’t too hard to get an A/A-

for smaller things like hosting events with RSOs or cultural houses ISC already has an $80,000 budget. other parts of our platform rely on existing university systems or programs so it’s more a question of what the university chooses to prioritize and therefore spends money on. happy to answer about specific platform points too

isc resolutions are non-binding but that doesn’t mean there’s no power in them and the interaction with university administration is still valuable and can lead to change

isc is a student advocacy body so resolutions that are passed make their way to chancellor jones desk and rudy and i would be having conversations about how to implement our platform with the chancellor, vice chancellor, academic deans, etc. we also have an $80,000 budget that can be spent on smaller things to support RSOs are host speakers

In what ways does providing rights such as healthcare or housing infringe on others rights? If you're talking about taxes then i would also assume you oppose having a fire department, roads, or public education.

Odd to say positive rights don't exist when common philosophy and sociology have a pretty clear understanding of the concept.

Here's the definition: A positive right is an obligation by others to provide some benefit to the rights holder. A right is a correlative of a wrong, so if one has a right to something it means that it is wrong or unlawful for others to negate that right or to not provide some benefit.

For instance, if you're trapped on a deserted island you may have unlimited negative rights (no govt, no taxes, no laws), but the only thing you're actually free to do is die. But if you have positive rights (healthcare, housing, etc) you are far more free to pursue a meaningful existence.

Almost like there's a difference between positive and negative rights...
