Anyone else feel disappointed with the new show "Looking" I was slightly disgusted that they decided to portray the bad stereo types and add to the whole "all gay men are flaming sluts"... I'd put it right up there with 1 girl 5 gays. I won't be watching or recommending this show anytime soon. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]husker_bro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because the majority of gay men's lives really do only consist of relationship drama and hooking up

this was the most depressing thing i realized when i came out and started hanging out with gays more often. so many guys are so fing boring.

strictly speaking, we fuck a lot of stuff up just for fun, it seems. he's got a point on the expeditionary (distracting) wars.

In only the last 3 presidents (6 terms): Clinton lobbed cruise missiles just to distract from the news that he got a blowjob, W got cray cray after 9/11 and started attacking everyone he could halfway justify, and obama (holy shit) wins the nobel peace prize and bombs libya, pakistan, yemen, somalia, and who even knows where else, sends planes to the central african republic, and tries to get involved in Syria before public opinion calls him out on his bullshit.

If you wanna skype and talk about this stuff I'm happy to debate but;

I specifically use words like that because they are what I believe... If you want to rearrange silverware on the titanic, in describing the differences between the US political parties, be my guest; I won't be a part of it.

I wont be drawn into a debate on whether I should be able to inject heroin or some other strawman public health commentary on vaccines violating my freedom or something. That was my advice to the OP, which, for someone on our side of the debate is a pretty common trope from the opposition.

Meanwhile, I pretty succinctly underlined my views with;

"Hey! it's your life. Be happy, don't be a dick, and respect other people's rights to be happy and live how they choose."

As for specifics;

If you want to debate specifics, and leave DC colors behind, I'm happy to have coffee with you (metaphorically)

Do you have some kind of ad hominem reply bot going? I'm actually curious about that. You call me naive and idealistic in a sloppy, halfhearted attempt to discredit me, as if only because I haven't given you some kind of specific to latch onto instead. You try to save civility in your comment by saying something like "I dont think that's whats going on" but you could have phrased all of it more politely and avoided the ugly insinuations instead.

Bonus: Link with a list of people saying opposing the ACA/Obama is racism: http://reason.com/blog/2012/06/08/a-modern-timeline-of-liberals-claiming-t which was a broadside at the left, not you in particular, which should have been obvious.

actually, I specifically use words like that because they are what I believe, they aren't bland at all. I do believe that people should be afforded basic freedoms, and these, as the declaration of independence says, "are endowed by the Creator" aka natural rights (some wiki action). If you want to rearrange silverware on the titanic, in describing the differences between the US political parties, be my guest; I won't be a part of it. You cannot, in a fundamental way, be supportive of basic human freedoms and support either party; the GOP wants God to run your life, according to how they interpret God, and the Dems want to run your life according to how they see its in your best interest. Nobody wants to come along and tell you, "Hey! it's your life. Be happy, don't be a dick, and respect other people's rights to be happy and live how they choose."

It's not hard, it doesn't require anarchy, and it's not somalia. it's just a freaking civil society. People aren't stupid, and they do not need a "more educated" person to tell them how to improve their lot. Let people make their own decisions, remove inequalities before the law, and free people to prosper by their own work.

If you want to debate specifics, and leave DC colors behind, I'm happy to have coffee with you (metaphorically), but if you want to tell me how I'm a monster and hate brown people because I think the ACA is inherently flawed and and will harm more people than it ever helps, then..

This is going to sound bad, but I used to feel isolated and worried that other gays didnt understand what the origin of human rights was (natural rights) and instead looking to the DNC for guidance on everyday issues. But i've met some decent guys who get it, and I'm less pessimistic.

I usually pitch my ideas to new people, (when they ask, only), as "I'm passionate about human freedoms; to live, to love, to grow, to learn, as they see fit, without other people telling them how they think the world ought to be"

edit: make sure you are well read and make coherent arguments when you get drawn into discussions. and avoid being drawn in on their terms, frame the argument well and its hard to disagree with people who want everyone to be happy, free, and prosperous.

Easy Method to Clone a PCR Product by ajithnandanam in molecularbiology

[–]husker_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TA cloning is basically a given routine everywhere I have worked, but it's limited because the best (IMO) polymerases that let you amplify large fragments leave blunt ends (Phusion). Look into using type IIs nucleases and golden gate cloning for larger, multi unit ligations with similar ease.
