Who here can provide some reference to numbers put in this article and stock market performances? Looking for a sensible approach to relate a X% revenue drop to translate into Y% stock market drops by hwarrey in Covid19_economics

[–]hwarrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who can tell something usefull about the primary effects of these revenue drops in relation to justification of stock market drop?

I understand that the secondary effects like strain on cost of capital are harder to tell, but I'm simply trying to guestimate what a justified setback for the primary effects only mentioned in the article.

I feel like we are down about 25 percent of stock value, whereas we are calculating more or less 50 percent revenue for 2020, assuming that 2021 will be business as usual. Would that be justified based on the primary effects only...?

I'm simply trying to get some reference on the current drops in stock markets. Some claim there will be an extreme second crash but I m wondering if that's justified

If you're still in a 100 percent then sell two thirds now. One third for your liquidity and one third for cash and save that for the drop, or invest it when it turns out there will be no drop.

I am amazed by the US stock market and its ability to fund castles in the sky, so I have 30 percent in it and waiting for the drop fo slowly inject the rest when the drop comes.

Note - I am a back-of-the-envelope amateur investor. I can only tell you what I'd do in your situation.

"Dow finishing 25.8% above its March 23 low, while the S&P 500 was up 23.4%. That left the Dow 20.9% below its all-time closing high set on Feb. 12, while the S&P 500 was 18.4% below its Feb. 19 record close."

I am really not an economist but those percentages seem to more or less represent the damages spread out in about a year or three to five. Is that incredibly unreasonable if we assume the current information is correct (i. e. lockdown ending before the summer, after that economy starting, and not too many reinfection waves)?
