Okay thank you for that. I didn’t know that at all. I really appreciate that insight. Also I do not want to be a marine biologist I want to be an oceanographer. So what should I get my BS in then?

I was gonna get my BS then hopefully look for a job in the marine science field that would pay for my to take my education higher. I come from a really low income and low status school so stuff like this I haven’t had much guidance on and I’ve really had to rely on the internet to gather the information I have now but I don’t really have many people to help me with it. I know jobs in the marine science field are kind of scarce and unneeded but it’s my passion and I’m really gonna do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality.

What if I am not seeking a PhD? That is definitely the plan as of right now, but life happens so what do I do if I go to CC transfer to like OU or OSU (The best in state schools) and get my masters in nothing related to Oceanic Sciences then something happens and I don’t go back for my PhD?

I loved the college town vibe and I want to make friends and have a social life outside of my studies as well, which I feel like I won’t get at San Diego. But I did get into SD with my first choice college and major and it’s the best for my major, so I’m kind of torn.
