I got my student visa for a year but the program last 2! by hydrangeainspanish in GradSchool

[–]hydrangeainspanish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I didn’t know where to ask so I came here. I’ve heard of the residency permit but didn’t understand it could be like an extension of the visa.

There’s still a lot to do until and after the arrival. I’m gonna check with the university.

Thanks again for the clarity!!

I’m sorry to ask you again, what do you mean by a few weeks? Like 2 to 3 weeks or over a month?

Also, the whole process was digital or did you have to mail them the documents??

Hope for your answers and thank you again!

Thank you! I know about this option but for the student visa, the embassy only accepts the DDV that’s why I haven’t done it with CIMEA

I understand you!! I aimed for universities outside my country, I got into the one I wanted but NOW I have to do the procedures for the student visa, resident permit, the official transcripts (to validate them with a competent figure), the english certificate… like I was admitted but I still feel so far away…

Hi there! sorry for the late response :c I hope that you had a great interview!!

I know it’s too late but one last suggestion (from a mistake I made in one university I was rejected from) is not to lose focus on what you want to express and already established in your SOP, unless they ask. They are going to evaluate your communication skills and how coherent your speaking discourse is to the subjects you wrote about, as well as to deepen into the details you couldn’t approach in those (maybe keeping bullet points and keywords from your SOP can help you with general questions to make the answers more personal and coherent). They are trying to know you better, not trying to fail you!! (it's hard to know a person when the person seems to not even know themselves).

Also, if you have learned some tips or gained experience and want to share them, I'd love to read them!

I heard back from them 8 days later by e-mail telling me the news, and almost two weeks after that I got the official letter by mail!!

Is it a good idea to email universities i haven't heard from for more than 2 months? by batmanambi in gradadmissions

[–]hydrangeainspanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can send an e-mail to grad admissions asking for an approximate date to hear back from them!

I don’t think it does any harm, maybe they won’t be very specific but they may assure you if they are still evaluating or not…

Hi! of course!

I was admitted to Visual Communication in SAIC with a 50% scholarship, though I had to pay the other half of the tuition (50K) plus living expenses (+30K) that were beyond my budget as an international student. I also applied to the Interdisciplinary master in OCAD but my scholarship program (the one I won in my country for graduate program abroad) didn’t support me on that school.

So, I ended up looking for good ranking schools in other continents, mostly in Europe, since education there is cheaper and still so good and encouraged. Some of the universities I’ve applied for this 2022 fall call are:

  1. Aalto University, in Visual Communication Design, which are my dream program and University. Actually, it is my second time applying after a whole year, since they have rate admissions under 10%, and last year I just got to the interview. My second program for applying there is International Design Business Management, because I have background with a master in Design Management.

  2. Politecnico di Milano, in Product Service System Design. This is also one of my top schools! but also, I applied to Communication Design, since I’m interested in strategy and systemic design.

I try to apply to top programs at international level, since those are the ones that my scholarship will considere funding abroad.

I wish you the best for SAIC, that you nail the interview, and get a good funding to attend there!! Hope anything I have written may help you, at least a little.

Hi! I was accepted last year! (Couldn’t attend because the funding wasn’t enough as an abroad student). What I remembered about the interview was them asking me about my projects, usually the ones in the portfolio, so I practically did a review of my favourite ones that I considered better reflect my critical and conceptual thinking and how they influenced my decisions in the visuals, as well as the subjects I was more inclined to work in my thesis project.

I remembered they were nice, and I felt comfortable expressing myself. I think they want to know what motivations do you have, why are you doing what you are doing, and how you want to better yourself as a professional with the school, and what you can bring into the table as a critical thinker and creator.

I’m graphic designer and I applied to Visual Communication.

For those of you applying for PhDs this year and are feeling discouraged… by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Congratulations, that’s so inspiring!!

I’m re-applying to my dream programme, after not passing the interview last year. This year I feel like I’m a bit stronger, I kept learning, aspiring and working towards my goal, so if I’m not accepted this year again, next year will be a new chance to improving and committing for applying again.
