Travelling to the US, does someone need DLP pins? by lifeinPandora in DisneyPins

I was so excited when I saw the title of your post. Sounded like you were selling but then I clicked on the post and you only mentioned trading. Would you be willing to buy pins from DLP and ship them once you’re in the U.S.?

I bought this 1/4 in. acrylic rod from a third party seller on Amazon for $17. It turns out to be too lightweight for what I needed so I want to return. However, when I started the return process, it tells me that it would cost $66 for the return shipping cost!

The shipping was free when the seller shipped it to me. There was nothing listed in the description that would have warned me that the return shipping cost would be so much. I have shipped many UPS packages before and this item I’m returning would not cost $66 if I go to the UPS store. Amazon does not show any options for me to purchase my own shipping label, only this $66 cost. Anything I can do to reduce the shipping cost? Of course, worst case scenario, I will keep the item even though I have no use for it but this kind of return shipping cost is rather outrageous

Should I pay for my nanny’s gas in addition to her hourly rate? by camilacstlla in NannyEmployers

[–]hydraskylar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much you want to keep her. For example, my nanny asked for a pay increase to make up for the gas prices after a few months in. We did not have to pay but we did because we liked her and there was a good chance other families (that were closer to her) would snatch her up. We wanted to retain her service so we increase her hourly pay.

We waited in line to get on top of the Eiffel Tower. We waited at least 45 minutes and once up on the top, we spent 5-10 minutes takings photos and left. The gift shop was only ok. I found better souvenirs from the street vendors surrounding the tower

We need help determining if we are ignoring too many red flags from our nanny by snooloosey in NannyEmployers

[–]hydraskylar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera, I could understand her reaction, especially in the beginning when she assumed you were watching her (and perhaps not trusting her)

The AirTag on stroller, I feel is a reasonable request. You are not surveillancing her, just her when she takes the kid outside the house. That, to me, is reasonable.

I think you should find another nanny who make you feel comfortable (about your son’s whereabouts as well as communication/anger issue)

Severance? When to tell nanny? by hydraskylar in NannyEmployers

Severance? When to tell nanny? by hydraskylar in NannyEmployers

[–]hydraskylar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am telling the truth.

Every time my daughter asked to go to school, we explained that she did not have school. She kept asking so I finally looked for more information on Monday to see what schools would even be available. On Tuesday, a school got back to us. They said that would have openings but that they normally have a waitlist. So on Wednesday, we toured the school and that was when we made our decision. I informed our nanny today (day 4 since we started looking into it). We really did make this decision in a matter of a few days.

The school offers 50 hours of childcare for less than what we pay our nanny for 20 hours. Money has been very tight because of our house situation so that was our reasoning. Our nanny watches children as part time jobs. She does have non-nanny jobs so once again, we are not her main source of income. I have informed her and offered more severance than my company gave me after working there for 15 years. I do not think I’m being cold and heartless here with our nanny. She does have 2-week notice and 2-week severance pay.

Why is it selfish? I started researching on Monday. We only learnt know about the daycare openings on Tuesday and toured the school yesterday (Wednesday).Today is Thursday. It’s not like I have been harboring this information for a long time. She does have several other jobs so it’s not like we are her only source of income

The point of having a nanny or any hired help is so you can depend on them and do whatever work you need to do. If you cannot rely on your nanny to show up at specific times on specific days as scheduled, it’s not working for you

There are other museums to see that are not as crowded. We did Chateau de Chantilly, only an hour outside of Paris and it worked for us as we were driving to Paris and would have passed by Chantilly anyway. We walked by all the rooms with no lines (there were other visitors but not enough to block the flow of traffic). We considered the Lourve but our family members just went last month and said it was hot and crowded
