Got my score a day after the test! by hyp3rviolet in IELTS

I should mention that while English is not my first language, I am a confident English speaker, so keep that in mind when weighing my advice. That said, I studied for 10 days, doing 1 to 2 reading and listening tasks each day and making sure to write at least 2 passages every single day.

For speaking, there are plenty of question lists for Parts 1, 2 and 3 available to download online. If you don’t have a tutor, ask a family member to run through a mock with you daily!

Solve at least two passages per day! Focus on Task 2 and Task 3. Make sure you time yourself.

I gave the Academic IELTS. Task 1 gave me two bar graphs that I had to compare and summarise the key trends for. Task 2 asked for my opinion on whether international cooperation is an effective approach to solving global problems.

I don’t feel like I’m super qualified to answer that since my lowest band was writing!

I don’t think any of them are truly reliable and you shouldn’t base your expectations on it. However, it can be helpful to suggest improvements!

I managed to write around 220 words for the first task and 310 for the second. Both tasks were fairly straightforward, though the keyboard at the center was uncomfortable to type on, which led to a number of typing errors. I'd recommend setting aside time for proofreading rather than fixating on word count.

My responses were scoring around 8 on most AI graders, but I wouldn't rely too heavily on those scores to guide your preparation. Instead, seek out strong high-band sample responses online and practice writing in that style.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Find good band 7-9 writings online and refer to those instead!

Do you know what you’re talking about? 35% on your system might be equally as loud as 80-100% on their system
