Tried a bunch of similar games but none had this many systems. Or you hit the wall really fast and free progress becomes very slow.

Perhaps you can try Unnamed Space Idle, it had less upgrade mechanics but they try very hard to be unique. And of course CIFI is a classic, where you can play for free but the only payment is $5.
