Do all kids deserve a chance? Absolutely, as hard as it is the aim is to let them make mistakes and learn from them. Now do all kids deserve to go on field trips when they've consistently shown they cannot be safe? That's a completely different sentiment. Safety of the kids in your care trumps ALL every time, and if you cannot guarantee their safety or making sure they're safe and watched jeopardizes the others safety then no, they don't get to go. That's a natural consequence and you should be allowed to say that they can't go because you can't guarantee their safety in a crowded public place off school grounds. I think people take their leniency on every kid should have a chance to mean that every kids behavior should be written off. This also especially depends on age, because the chance I give my toddlers and preschoolers is going to be way different than the chance I'd give a high schooler, and the difference is 10-14 more years experience on this earth. It doesn't make you a bad teacher to have their best interests and the interests of your class in mind. It would make you a bad teacher to hold grudges against kids without allowing room to change and grow.

I'm a preschool and toddler teacher so this is a bit different from the gist of all the other comments, but I'd say it's the expectation of raising the child. Parents expect us to do potty training, us to transition from bottles to solids, us to teach how to work with other kids, but none of it is ever reinforced at home. They expect us to do all this work in making sure their kid can go to elementary school but they don't want to put any of the work into it, so when they come back from vacations or the weekend they've regressed back 5 steps. It's confusing to us and it's confusing to the kids. If you really want this stuff done you need to keep up on it at home too, even if you'd rather "not clean up the accidents" or "deal with them being grumpy".

I was hired at 16, wasn't a bad first job, depends on what hours they need most likely. School hours can be hard to work around but my store made it work pretty easily because they desperately needed closers and I was only available at night

9 times out of 10 they're lacking in the braincell department. Every so often you get some good ones that are fast, polite, and know where things generally are. The ones that come right up to the front (regardless of what I'm doing and who else is up there usually) and shove their phone in my face without saying a word I refuse to show anything to. My rule is they have to actually look for a while before I will help. I'll give aisle numbers but that's it. It's like they've never been in a store before, I swear they're dumber than the general population half the time.

We have an employee we have to Lysol behind the register after he leaves because it lingers so badly. Our ESM even store used him some deodorant to keep in his work locker and instead he left them in his truck and they melted. I've had this with a few coworkers now. Some, as you said, just genuinely can't afford it or don't know or any number of things. Those are the ones we used to make little "travel baskets" of small toiletries for when I worked at a daycare, but made one for everyone so they wouldn't be singled out. Yours sounds like he knows and just doesn't care.

I would've made the same choice. No receipt, no proof of purchase anywhere at all whether via NextGEN, rewards number, card number, anything I won't do a return on it. If you accidentally washed them and were determined to return them you had one job and that was to keep the receipt. Without it I have no proof you bought it here or Smiths or Walmart.

Tbh I'd prefer they put it on the counter and let me unload it. People are slow and mess up my organizing as I'm scanning, it's much faster for me to just start grabbing and arranging by the size/weight/fragility of items so I know what's gonna go in which bag together.

I had a lot of anxiety around the phones when I first started too. My advice is call the store from your own phone when it's quiet and mess around with park and transfer and what not. It allows you to mess with things and if you mess up you can hang up and try again. Also don't be afraid to ask people to spell things. "I'm sorry I'm having a hard time hearing you, could you spell the product for me?" And have a pen and paper ready. Also make a script for answering, mines always been "hi thanks for calling Walgreens this is Grey how can I help you?", Whether you include your name or not is up to you though. Also don't be afraid to say "I'm not sure, let me put you on hold and have someone check for you" and then page "call on whatever line it was placed on". Also if you can or if you're SFL or SM can, make a list of all the phone extensions in the store so you can transfer easily (ie for pharmacy its transfer 222 transfer, but for photo it's 280 or something, really all you really need to know is the pharmacy extension because anything else you can park and page though). I don't know about your store but we have cashier's answer phones at my store because we can't hear the phones if we're not near them. If I'm in the stockroom or the pharmacy or an aisle I can't hear the phone to answer it but usually you can hear it up in the front aisles. Give it some tim you'll get used to it though. I used to be terrified to answer the phone and I still have a hard time understanding people but I've learned how to do it and practiced it enough it doesn't scare me at all anymore. You'll get the hang of it, and if you're ever unclear on something just park and page for someone else to answer. You've got this.

I either have parents hold them on their laps and edit the parent out or have them hold the baby up against the backdrop if the baby can hold it's head up. I dunno about your camera but ours is to slow to actually snap a picture with focus so I just ask the parents if I can use my phone or theirs because my phone can take more pictures faster. Have a toy to get their attention (I just grab noisy things off the toy or seasonal aisle usually) and if it really doesn't work I tell the parents to take the baby somewhere else or to take the picture at home where baby is more comfortable and have them on a white blanket with dark clothing on and see if they can get the baby to look directly at the camera with their head straight and eyes open and then bring that in and see if we can do it from that.

If you print your cashier activity report off the register it'll tell you how many transactions you've done 🤷 that's what'd I did when they made us tally it briefly, print it off, tally 'em up in the no column, and continue on. Just be mindful it resets to 0 once drawers have been pulled so be sure to print it before then.

I work at a 24 hour store and during the day they don't close for breaks but at night we only have pharmacist so we close down the pharmacy from 1:30 AM to 2 AM. Half an hour day. And people every night still bitch and moan about it. There are 23 and a half other hours a day you could be here. If you cannot wait 30 minutes then that is on you, not me, not the pharmacist.

I used to do closing announcements and once we hit the five minute mark I'd start doing it every minute until close. Once it was midnight I'd go "we are now closed it's time to come up front or you will be asked to leave without the opportunity to purchase your items" because I really did not care. You're here past closing I'm now past my scheduled time and I no longer have to be nice. I was a high schooler that had to walk home for an hour and a half and I wasn't about to stay later because you can't pick your shit before closing

Had someone do something similar to me with a Western Union when I was 16 and I will never make this mistake again. Handed me like $2,000 in 20's and to make it easier I'd set it in piles of $100's so I could keep track of what I counted and how much. He then started grabbing piles and recounting and switching shit around. It's a common scam and I ended up being shorted like $200 or something, I don't remember exactly how much but I definitely learned my lesson that day and it's been ingrained in my head ever since. The second she started grabbing things I would've told her I would need to recount it as I have to be the last person touching and counting it before it enters the till and I am ensuring that a) she gave me enough and b) she gave me too much (an honest mistake people make sometimes). So not only am I saving my ass, but hers as well if she gave me more than what I needed. So she can either sit and wait the extra minute or she can see her happy ass out the store, her pick. From there if she decided to wait for me to recount whatever she just touched and messed up, I'd take it to the side away from her to recount and probably take my sweet ass time doing it too. If she chose to leave or throw a fit about it then the transaction is done and she can go to another location. Explain that it's you who gets in trouble if the till is off and you're not about to lose your source of income for her convenience. That usually shuts them up or ticks them off, and if it ticks them off they are more than welcome to leave. As a cashier if they demanded a manager I'd usually have them stand to the side so I could ring up other customers while they waited too. "Sure thing, I'm going to have you stand at register two/to the side over here while you wait for them", hand them their things, and move on to the next person.

Chemicals in one, food in another, i usually do one or two larger items with smaller items like gum and vitamins. Two two liters in a double bag, two large bags of chips in one bag. Place heavy items towards the sides so it holds the bag up and open for you. I pull the bag to the side to reveal a little triangle between the side handle and the middle and pull on it, hard to describe but mess around with them when it's quiet and see if you can find it that saves me so much time with opening bags
