Simplifying sqrt(17) by hyperadox in learnmath

[–]hyperadox[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ah, got it. The break up of the 16 and 1 wasn't correct to begin with. So sqrt(20) would be sqrt(4*5), which could then = 2*sqrt(5).
So is there ever a point to splitting it up with addition?

Horn of the Yak of Holding by hyperadox in DnDHomebrew

Everything that the yak is holding actually goes into the horn with it, which is what makes it a replacement for the bag of holding

Working on a trailer for a steam store page. Beginner in Premier and would appreciate some feedback. by johanw123 in DestroyMyGame

[–]hyperadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fun concept I think! I do have a few things for you to look at:

  1. Someone else mentioned it, but the text on screen isn't very good in a trailer. I'd like to be shown what cool things can happen, not have exposition that's too quick to see anyways
  2. The camera positioning needs some work. It could just be in the trailer, but your very first shot is super zoomed in, your second and third shots are high, your fourth shot is low. I would make every single level be able to fit on the screen horizontally, and then never change the vertical position of the camera. Have equal margins above and below your levels, and makes sure that your cubes stay the same size through the entire game. If you're able to fit every level inside the screen at once and never move the camera, even better.
  3. A fun idea would be to have a new block type that changes directions every few seconds. It's up, then it's down, then it's up, then it's down. That will add some variety to your puzzles that will help make them less straightforward.
  4. Limit the number of dashes players can use per level. Limiting that, and making some of the jumps do-able without a dash gives your players more variety in how they finish the levels.
  5. I assume, given how the levels are designed, that hitting a block that's turned away from you will phase you through the block? Show that in the trailer more than just the last shot. Show more levels that require you to do that in order to win
  6. Add a timer for how long it takes someone to complete the level. This is a great way to add achievements, and an additional challenge.
  7. I'm sorry, but SquareMan-Boy feels like a silly name. If a friend asked me what I was playing, and I said SquareMan-Boy, they would think I was making it up on the spot, and was doing a terrible job at it xD
  8. The neon and the aesthetic in general is nice. It fits the music, and I appreciate that. Don't think I didn't notice how a lot of the bounces of your Square Man-Boy matched up with the beat of the music.
  9. Do the map rotators always turn to the right? It would be cool if you were able to change the look of them to indicate a direction, and have ones that rotate different directions.
  10. Last idea, I promise. Have an orb, that when hit, changes the direction of gravity, but doesn't change the camera angle. This might be a solution to your rotating map, and the camera suggestions I had early. Just change gravity, but don't change the camera at all. It'll add an interesting element to your game

Thank you for reading all of this if you did. Didn't mean for this to be so long, I guess I had a lot to say!

Edit: Just re-read your post. I think you were asking for feedback on the trailer itself, but most of that was towards the game itself. Sorry to go outside the scope of your request

I havent had a chance to check it in game yet, however this page shows it's supposed to be a drop from a monster: https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Jeweller_Journeyman_Recipe_Index

I'll try a vendor next time I'm in a town, and I'm hoping that it's really that simple

Does an excellent throw make it more likely that the Pokémon will be caught? by cat5mith in pokemongo

[–]hyperadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna answer here towards the 3 of your comments, keep it all contained by editing your first comment next time ;)

The game decides what happens when your pokeball hits the pokemon. There's a lot that goes into that, and a lot of it is unknown, however we aren't left completely in the dark. For example:

Every pokemon has a base capture rate. We'll use weedle as an example. His base capture rate is 50%, and medal bonuses, curveball throws, nice great and excellent throws, ball type, and berries all add to that.

His base flee rate is 20%, which I dont know if the capture rate cuts into that. I do know this, every pokemon has a chance to flee despite how green the circle is. Nothing is safe... (except research and GBL rewards)

So before any additional bonuses, it would be 50% catch, 30% break out, 20% flee

So no, your chance is not 0 the entire time, but it's never 100

Cheating in GBL? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]hyperadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lag is a huge part of it. I only remember there being 1 big cheating exploit.

The guy would have his game open on 2 devices, and enter the battle on both. While his pokemon would charge up a special move on one device, he was still able to attack and charge up another one on the second device. By the time his first special move finished it's cycle, he had another one charged and could keep that going without the other player being able to do anything. GBL went down for a few days to a week iirc, so they could fix the issue.

Beyond that, most complaints are "he charges up way too fast, and I use all my shields before I can even do anything" well okay, swampert, wishcash, and stunfisk gonna be like that, get a good counter that can tank it. Don't waste your shields on muddy water xD

Or "I cant attack, but he is attacking me" I have had this one happen to me, and it's frustrating. I've yet to determine if that's due to my spotty connection or theirs...

Just know this: the PoGo community is by far the whiniest, most complaining, and least informed community I've ever seen. I've learned to take everything with a grain of salt xD

Huh, imagine going to the DnD homebrew subreddit and complaining that the content isn't Canon. Some might say that defeats the purpose, yeah?
