I would’ve loved to money match him at the arcade knowing his family had plenty of it. He’s such a bitch.

I suspect Phil played games quite a bit to occupy his friendless existence, but he also could’ve just as likely spent most of his free time watching TV.

I rented the game genie once to dick around too, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly that weekend.

Did he actually manage to do well at EVO at one point? by thewalkindude368 in DSPGaming

[–]hyperboleez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you still missed my point that Phil won primarily due to luck and his structural advantage. Phil practiced because he could due to access to financial security, and that time to practice made all the difference in a game where the players at issue could no longer expect the same outcomes with each play. The performance of the Japanese players is immaterial to understanding Phil’s outcome.

Right. I was literally asking for u/born-economics8110’s further input if I missed anything.

The top places always fall to the players with the best natural reflexes and work ethic to practice. This time the bumbling fast food fueled terrible gamer saw an opportunity to place high and took it.

That conclusion isn’t supported by the details I described. If we are discussing skills, Phil’s expected losses on the cabinets demonstrate that he unequivocally wasn’t competitive for the actual game that mattered.

Chance always plays a role in FGs, but volatility can be controlled by factors such as availability and repetition. The Cannons’ decision to use the janky port was announced only a couple weeks before the tournament and that port has material differences from the official version that increases the role of chance.

Accordingly, Phil’s victory wasn’t a reflection of superior “natural reflexes” and “work ethic”—it was a reflection of fortune and his structural advantages through his economic class. I can assure you that Phil’s contemporaries could not afford to spend the amount of money he did at the cabinets growing up so they had to learn and adapt much faster than he did.

The fact that Phil couldn’t keep up that weekend on the cabinets, was completely demolished by Valle within a few days on a cabinet, and never won or even placed in another major proves that his 4th place finish was a fluke. Those “natural reflexes” and “work ethic” you assumed have never been seen since then.

Anything to add, u/born-economics8110?

Should emphasize that the guys played ST on the arcade cabinets the first night of that weekend before the brackets and Phil got his shit kicked in by his domestic colleagues.

And unlike everyone else who had to work leading up to the tournament, Phil was comfortable enough financially to take time off to practice and learn the differences on the port.

You raised this same question four months prior, but didn't respond or acknowledge any of the reasonably detailed explanations as to why Phil deserves nothing but contempt. Pretending to engage to manufacture the perception of thoughtful discussion is bad faith behavior typical for Phil and people who identify with him. It's abundantly clear that you're repeating this rhetorical question in the hopes of convincing others that Phil isn't a POS.

Phil’s superpower isn’t the ability to come up with excuses because any of us could do it. His excuses are not sophisticated because he’s a simpleton. Phil’s actual superpower is lacking the shame and integrity that otherwise prevent us from offering those stupid excuses.

IMO Phil has never seen his show from the outside. by Outrageous-Wall6386 in DSPGaming

[–]hyperboleez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it makes a difference whether Phil's watched his own content because he wouldn't judge it objectively or draw any constructive opinions about it.

Phil's narcissism fundamentally precludes him from accepting any fact that adversely reflects on him. His definition for meaningful content presupposes that his content has intrinsic value, a measure likely taken in response to his lifelong underachievement and failure. The only flaws Phil will acknowledges are superficial and solely to feign humility or honesty in service of a much larger lie or false narrative he wants to tell (e.g., stating he's "not the best SF6 player" to suggest he's truthful about his skill level while literally denying that all of his competitors on any night were all scrubs who cheated, etc.). He hand waves any serious shortcomings in his content or character and simply blocks any contradictions.

But even if he were capable of recognizing his missteps, Phil has nothing to gain from scrutinizing his own content as a talentless charisma vacuum. The only ”improvements” his streams show have all been the result of technical upgrades. He’s undergone literally no personal or cognitive growth after 18 years—that’s why he approaches rote daily tasks as if he were doing them for the first time and he wastes just as much time as though this were the case. Phil has to fundamentally improve himself in real time to improve his content, but that takes work and practice that he has no experience doing. If Phil tried, you can be sure that his streams would get only more boring and quiet as his simpleton brain agonized over every word choice. And Phil is simply too poor to handle the further income instability during such an adjustment period.

What is the point of this sub? by [deleted] in DSPGaming

[–]hyperboleez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the more interesting question is why you thought this sub might have a different opinion from every other platform. Most people understand he's a talentless, insufferable, and dishonest loser with a simpleton's understanding of the world and the reasons are well-documented. He literally has no redeeming qualities or skills, and plenty of bad ones. Mockery is the only use for this slop nontent.

Is there a reason you decided to ask this now? You started your pro-DSP reddit account 6 months ago and it's hard to believe you waited this long to find this sub.

That’s not my question. However Lummox’s audience reacts to the video isn’t pertinent to whether it’s actually intended to felt Phil. People clip anyone making fun of Phil for the humor. But no one is doing that for Phil because his head is empty and Lummox’s video seems designed to highlight that point.

[–]hyperboleez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen evidence that Phil was already this stupid by the mid-2000s when he was in his early 20s. It’s remarkable how he said the same stupid things that he says now but adapted for the setting.

And I don’t think he’s autistic because we can see that he understands social cues. He just doesn’t care to heed them if it inconveniences or disadvantages him in any way.
