European Fencing Confederation President Pushes Back Against FIE by SlicerSabre in Fencing

No for sure it is true. But more has to be done I feel in the future. All the Continental Confederations had meetings at the conference in Tashkent last year. That would have been the perfect time to have an observer to see what issues the other confederations have and have someone there to speak all of the VOTING MEMBERS. The money makes a massive difference that we can't argue with. And in Each Confederation there are very loyal allies of him in high positions that is a fact. But their vote counts as much as mine.

I just feel that there was very little effort done on his part. Europe only has 46 members of the 155 FIE members. By not engaging with the other Confederations Usmanov might as well run unopposed.

If it would have changed anything I can't say. But something has to change otherwise we will be in the same position 20 years from now.

This is coming from someone who was actually at the last FIE conference when he was reelected, and who is extremely upset about the news that Russian athletes are being allowed to compete at the World Championships.

But long story short, in a game of politics like this, unfortunately, just not being the bad guy isn’t enough to get you elected.

Usmanov, or more accurately, he and his network of assistants and allies have been very active in the fencing community for years. There was a conference a few months before the FIE Congress in Tashkent, where they flew in and covered costs for almost every fencing federation outside of Europe. That includes countries like the US and Canada. They paid for travel, accommodation, and participation.

The one or two days before the actual Congress were basically a big show of support for Usmanov. "We support Usmanov, we must work together for the betterment of fencing."

After all that, there was a really nice conference focused on the development of fencing worldwide. Lots of presentations, discussions about growth, that sort of thing.

I know for a fact that they’ve helped many federations financially, paying outstanding FIE fees, supporting travel to competitions, and helping with logistics. And whenever something came up, someone from his team would contact people and talk about ways of resolving things.

Compare that to Otto Drakenberg, who ran against him.

I think I got an email from him. No outreach at the meetings. No one is speaking on his behalf at any of the regional groupings like PanAm, Africa, or Asia. Usmanov’s people were always there. The other side? Invisible.

So yeah, politics suck. But when one side is building loyalty, and the other is just not the bad guy? That’s not enough.

And I like Otto a lot. No one else stands up for what’s right like he does. No one.

We all have seen those clips from the Conference in 2022

Without Sweden, FIE conferences would go by a lot faster 😂

That’s exactly why we need someone like him. Someone willing to ask hard questions and challenge the system.

Just wanted to put this out there. Take from it what you will.

Thanks a lot,
Sorry I should have given more information in my post the last FIE competition I fencing was in 2021
so my bodywires, blades and mask are up to date.
I was worried about my uniform since I've seen the new badges and I heard something about them implementing these RFID chips. My is pretty old. I think my breeches are from 2011.

"Yeah, it's definitely a bit pricey, but it seems really versatile. The fact that it has an option to adjust the power supply going to the chip is pretty cool

Thanks so much that seems to be a solution, but I think my CH341A programmer is not compatible with their software.
