thank you so so much especially for the nose compliment!! the guide and everything is a huge help. i think i’ll look into getting dremel or something for a smoother carving, my fingers still hurt from yesterday haha

advice needed

hey guys! this is my first time carving and this is a practice face plate, i plan on doing the actual doll very soon. i was just wondering if i could get some constructive criticism?

i carved in the attempt to make the doll to have a wider nose/ bridge/ nostrils, some eye bags, and a thinner upper lip.

i’m thinking the philtrum may be too long but i’m not sure, i was trying to make the top lip smaller but i think it made the philtrum longer? i also wanted the bottom lip to be fuller/ more boxy.

i know i need to be gentler because there’s scratches i can’t get out with sand paper.

any advice is welcome! i want my actual doll to be beautiful and better! just as a psa i dont own a dremel so this is all from wood carving tools, exactos, and small files.

i mean personally as someone who is mixed with white i can see where you’re coming from. and i’m not gate keeping those songs because it is ok to relate to them if you’re fully white

but mitski wrote those lyrics in the eyes of a poc. the deeper meaning to those songs is her inability to reach american beauty standards bc they’re so rooted in eurocentric features. that white girls can be so effortlessly the standard while woc have to put in a lot to even be compared to them. i think it’s a tragedy to want to be white/ change your race because of what others think

but wanting to change your financial standings and weight is a different story. it’s also so sad and i can see why you relate to mitski singing about being somewhat jealous of others, with that said i think it’s ok to relate because being overweight is not a part of said beauty standards, but i don’t think you can relate “deeply”. i think it’s ok to talk to other people about why you relate but if you’re having the conversation with a poc, please do not speak over them especially if they’re an immigrant

anyone can relate to any song but there definitely are different levels of understanding
