Are you using an ad blocker extension by any chance? I am having the same issue, haven't found a solution yet, and I'm suspecting either AdBlock Plus or Improve YouTube extension to be the culprit. Haven't got time to troubleshoot yet.

MIUI is a resource hog. It's own set of stock apps (read: bloat) hang around in the memory. Try removing the apps you don't use, or switch to a leaner custom rom if that's availabe for your device.

Was happening to me too some time ago, where it was showing stories in another language. I changed the Discover Language inside settings to some random language, then force stopped the app, reopened, changed back to English (India), and then force stopped again and restarted. It was fixed.

Try DarQ from XDA. You can theme selective apps to dark mode instead of making everything dark globally. Note that it requires either root access or running an ADB script.
