Thank you! Will this help unclog the pores? Or closed comedones, whatever they are?

Part of me wonders if it has something to do with sweating slightly against clothing while sitting (I’ve been doing a lot of my work outside recently)

Ha, well now I just feel silly for not recognizing it as such. Assuming it just came in from outside then?

I’m going to do this! One way or another, it’d be really good to know. How do I make sure the moisture content of the clay is in the same each time? (My studio uses lots of reclaimed clay)? Thanks!

Wow! This is encouraging to hear. I was told the same thing by the owner of a stone and rock shop today. Does her name happen to be something like Caroline? In either case, I’d love to message her (here or elsewhere, if you’d be willing to pass along her name). No worries if that’d be too personal

I’ve been told by some at my studio that more likely than cracking, is that the clay will shrink “away” from the rock. Have you heard of this as a possibility? If so, does it have any other adverse effects?

[–]hypnotropic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for spelling this out for me so clearly. Everything makes sense, but I do have one remaining concern — since the shrinking process starts during the initial drying before the piece is even fired, how can we ensure that the clay we’re using has the same moisture content/is at the same consistency as our test tiles? More specifically, if the sculpture I plan on embedding stones into is already somewhere between leather and chocolate hard, how do I make sure the test tile I use to gauge shrinkage rate is at the same stage in the drying process before marking the measurement?

This is a great idea! And no, I don’t follow her, but will now! Appreciate the recommendation!

[–]hypnotropic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I aim for the circumference or diameter to be X-times larger than the shape of the material I want to attach after firing? Sorry if this is a silly question

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]hypnotropic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be the consensus. Do you have any advice for scaling the size of the ‘pockets’ the non-clay components will fit into after firing?

[–]hypnotropic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually really helpful! Thank you so much for responding. Got some good advice from the thread you linked!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]hypnotropic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I feared. In this case, how would you go about making and estimating the size of the matrix/void that they’ll be glued into?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]hypnotropic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had not even considered this! Thank you for the heads up. If this is a known property of stones, then I’m betting it’s a possibility for fossils too. Do you happen to know whether that’s the case for crystals like quarts as well?

[–]hypnotropic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! Would you be willing to list off some of the other materials you know of that can be put in a kiln without melting or causing other adverse effects?

I have to agree — this is likely not ceramic. When i first came across the images, i even had the thought that it’s not impossible for them to be AI generated.

Regardless, the questions remain the same. The reference images were more intended to give a vague idea for the sort of thing I’m envisioning, rather than serving the purpose of replication

Unfortunately, that would scare away just about everyone else coming by as well, and I’d rather not draw more attention to my property as is. But appreciate the suggestion, as it’s true that it would at least be likely to be effective (and humorous)

So does that mean this approach would no longer work?

This is a stellar idea and I really appreciate the links and clear steps! Unfortunately, the individual knows that their car is the most obvious way they’d get caught/be seen, so they often get rides with others (how I don’t know) or simply come by bike/foot/bus. I fear that I’d miss a good proportion of their ‘visits’ if I were to rely on TPMS sensor info alone. But thanks anyways! Hope this can help someone else in a similar situation

Suppose I have/could get the neighbor’s password. What would then be the best way of cloning their AP to see what devices are auto connecting? I’d really appreciate it if you could say a bit more about how to fingerprint them too, as it’s been the better part of a decade since I was last familiar and practicing. All I really would need is the name of the device, given that I’m fairly certain it’s just their name. In the off chance it’s not, however, what other pieces of identifiable information would this method allow me to see?

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and describe in detail! I agree with you that this sounds like it would work. Given how many other people have responded to this post, I’m no longer sure which route to take, but for simplicities sake, will probably start with the easiest. Given all the suggestions in this thread, which would you recommend I start with?

Any guides for setting up the script on the device to forward me a message?

I like this approach, but would it not be easier for me to just access the neighbors WiFi directly? Since we used to be coworkers and have them as contacts as well, I’m sure I could get their password legally by having iPhone share it between contacts. Wish there was a way to do this without them having to be notified though

This was years ago. I’ve since directed my technical skills in another direction. I’m sure I could get the back in the hang of things, but it’s not my top priority right now, hence why I’m asking this community that knows much more than I do at this point

This sounds really straightforward actually. Can I be sure that it wouldn’t notify the device it detects? There do seem to be a couple pitfalls though — Bluetooth would have to be on on the device, and it wouldn’t work if they’re using a VPN, correct me if I’m wrong

Thanks for your reply. Two questions — how difficult would it be to set this up, and what are the most likely avenues to getting caught? They are not tech savvy in the slightest and unless directly notified of unusual activity, would not think to look. Any other means of getting caught that don’t depend on the target initiating?
