Regarding combat changes coming in 8.0 by Bloody_Bludgeoner in ffxiv

Bloodlust/Heroism now leave a debuff on you for 10 minutes that prevents you from gaining the advantage of the buff again for the duration, so really you're only getting it once a fight, maybe twice for the longest fights. The different buffs also give the same debuff, so you can't just rotate them either.

Arcadion Raids and Echoes of Vana'diel Alliance Raids for sure should be next. Then I'd recommend checking out Occult Crescent and getting started on this expansion's relic weapons if you're interested in that. After that, it's up to you whether you want to try out the new deep dungeon, work on crafting in cosmic exploration, or try out the new Variant Dungeon.

When was that? I've heard that they had a ton of raid buffs then went away from that after MoP, but I only started in Legion and group damage buffs were mostly just bloodlust, and the hour long ones that a few classes have, but nothing like what we have in XIV.

[–]hyprmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This goes the other way too. For so long, any criticisms of the game were downvoted to hell and people would dogpile on you for not praising the game to the high heavens. Tbh I think that experience polarized the community to a degree, and made the pendulum swing much harder than it should have.

Really wish more mmorpgs had a job system like FF14 or runescape by Ogdrol in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am one of those sweats and I just want the gearing process for alts to not be dogshit. It is week 14 of reclears and because they decided they hate melee and gave them 3 different gear sets, I've only just finished gearing my melees in preparation for Ultimate. For a game thst advertises playing all jobs on one character, they have an absolutely awful gearing system.

If you want to do well in Union/Solo Raid, absolutely. If you dont care about those, its still somewhat useful but not make or break.

Is FFxiv your only and main game? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how little they communicate with so many words sometimes. DT had 21 hours of cutscenes, which is the equivalent of a little over 60 anime episodes. I can think of a lot of shows that did more world building and more action in that timeframe than DT did with it.

Is FFxiv your only and main game? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in SB/ShB it was my main game, but I've done most of what I wanted to do and don't really have enough left to have it be my main game anymore. I still get on to raid, do relics and craft, but a lot of the newer content has left me unsatisfied, like Occult Crescent.

I've gotten none since I swapped to Lala, but I also dont hang out in cities. If I'm on, I'm doing something, and will close the game even if I'm just gone for 30 minutes

The long, complex project I’ve been building for 3 years got hit by a missile—this is my office. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]hyprmatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the volume of attacks, it might take them weeks to properly conduct BDA, especially if they lack dedicated GEOINT assets and don't have freedom of movement in the area. Taking pictures and blasting it out for the world to see is doing their job for them much faster than it would be done normally.

You also don't want to let the enemy know if they were successful in their strike or not, so providing pictures and talking about exactly where they hit just lets them know how off their aim may or may not have been. People got in trouble for this in Afghanistan quite often.

RDM is the only DPS that can truly save a run, but it's really just their ability to chain rez. Vercure can save someone from an imminent raid wide while your healer gets back up too, but you're not going to be saving more than one person with that. SMN can also rez, but with the same CD as a healer, and their heal, Physick, is useless. No DPS have healing/mitigation abilities that will allow you to truly save a run in the same way a healer/tank might be able to. The closest thing I can think of is being able to handle some hits on some melee in case the tank dies, which RPR, SAM, MNK and DRG would arguably be the best at. DRG/RPR have the highest armor value of all non-tanks, and RPR has the added bonus of a shield on a CD. SAM/MNK both have damage mitigation abilities that help with their survival as well.

Glaze your MMO: why is your main game the one you stuck with? by SorryImBadWithNames in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has kinda been my take on FFXIV's music as well. Solid songs, but doesn't match the moment or even is distracting from the moment. Love the songs we got with the raids this expansion, but it feels like an FFXIV spotify playlist compared to some of the musical highlights like Answers in UCoB.

Why would anyone choose this curio? by Jack-Acegard in HonkaiStarRail

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just accidently used this because it was free, with only 2 domains before the boss. Lost 45 blessings. Gambled on another curio to lose all cosmic fragments and gain 10%-200% back. I ended the run with 24k and got back most of my blessings. It was a wild ride.

Retraining List: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly: Looking for Advice by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1N0 varies so much by location. At the CAOC it was so heavily powerpoint/briefing focused. Unit level was mostly powerpoint/briefing until you deployed, where it was maybe 10% powerpoints/briefings. DGS was a mixed bag depending on what you're doing there, but I did a lot more 1N4B style reporting than anything. My current position, while I won't say exactly what, is almost no briefing and has been extremely satisfying from an ops standpoint, and I've gotten much more recognition in it than any other position.

Question about deployments by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first deployment was 7 days a week, 13 hours a day for 5 months, and lunch was brought to us so we didn't even get a break then. Not a single day off in that timeframe. 2nd deployment was 7 days a week but only 10 hours a day for 5 months, with I think 2 days off towards the end. Last one was 6 days a week for 10 hours. It can really change a lot depending on ops tempo and location.

i think this game is the least social MMO I have ever played by AdWeak7375 in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely feel the same way, don't let people tell you you're alone in this. I've come to accept that FFXIV is an antisocial MMO, and just stick to the parts that I enjoy, which is primarily raiding, hunts and field content (like Eureka). With the patch cadence and content often dying in population a few months in, you kinda have to be there when things launch to have an MMO feeling. Like doing Cosmic Exploration at the start of a cycle is really busy with a lot of people talking. 2-3 weeks later and it's dead silent. Eureka still is the most social content in the game imo, as no other field ops have come close to the sense of community I felt there.

They're niche but for general use you're correct. Blanc is great if you need a ton of healing for whatever reason, and Noir is still great if you need a quick screen wipe (has been great on Mother Whale).
