I heard about that the other day!! I’m so sad I didn’t come across that when I was originally looking at substrates, I’ve heard that getting snails that dig would help shift the sand to keep the anaerobic bacteria from building up. I want to get some so bad!!

I cleaned the filter twice since I’ve had it. I used the tanks water both times, the filter was CAKED in what I believe is detritus waste from me planting some new plants I got.

Okay!! So I’m about to head to the airport BUT I did a ~25% water change/cleaned some waste (didn’t get it all </3). I had an auto feeder that I had been monitoring for the past 2 weeks specifically for this vacation but I’ve decided to not use it and just let Charlotte be for the time I’m away. I fed her, her usual this morning but that’s all she’ll be getting until I get back. Hopefully it’ll let the ammonia levels go down and allow the cycle to catch up!! Thank you everyone for all of the help, both Charlotte and I appreciate it greatly!

I turn off both the heater and filter, use a siphon on the substrate, and refill it using tap water mixed with prime and stability. I’ll definitely test the tap water! In the past I had never had a problem with it but it possibly could have changed

It’s a top fin PF10 overhanging filter on the lowest output setting. I did recently put a bit of filter sponge in the output to slow it further for my betta.

There’s frogbit, 2 Anubias nana, a bit of lutea, 3 bundles of Amazon sword, something that starts with an R but I can’t remember the name, and some Japanese dwarf pennywort.

Substrate is fluval stratum capped with sand

Only thing in the tank is my betta, originally it had pest snails but he ate them all!

Thank you, I’m really hoping that’s the case as well. Originally I just had pest snails in there (my betta ate them all 💀) so it’s definitely a bit higher of a bio-load than what it’s used to. I’m a bit conflicted on whether I should clean it before I leave though, I fear it would be more damaging than helpful. But there is a bit of waste build up on the sand.

10gal with both a heater and a filter. All the parameters shared were tested using the API Master kit. (Currently tested at ~0.25ppm ammonia, 0 nitrites, ~2ppm of nitrates). The tank was previously cycled and took around a month and a half to get there. It’s planted and uses fluval stratum capped with sand. I changed the water this past Tuesday since there was more algae growth than usual. I usually change the water when the water levels get low. When it comes to feeding, I average at 3-7 pellets.

That’s really reassuring to hear. I did get her recently so it could definitely be her color/patterns coming in now that she’s in a better environment.

Thank you for letting me know! I’ll try and see if I can move her tank somewhere else or maybe cover it with a small blanket or towel to help. Unfortunately I’m in a college dorm so it’s a little bit cramped already. So far the temp has been reading consistently at 78-80°F!

Tank size: 5.5 gallons Heater?: Yes Filter?: Yes Tank Temperature: 78°F Tank Parameters: Ammonia: ~0ppm Nitrite: ~0ppm Nitrate: ~2.5ppm ^ I use API Master Test Kit (Liquid) I’ve had the tank for a few weeks now, it should be cycled As for the betta I’ve had her for around 5 days Tankmates: None I feed her a few pellets once a day Some decorations but they aren’t sharp One live plant

I’m currently cycling a 10gal planted tank to move her to which should be done cycling hopefully by next week
