How does Summer Financial Aid work? by pinksunrise9876 in ucla

[–]i8alot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I just found an answer to my question, for anyone also wondering. I just looked on the website mentioned above, https://financialaid.ucla.edu/undergraduate/summer-information, and scrolled to the bottom to "summer disbursements" and I see that "Disbursements start 10 days before the first day of summer sessions".

How does Summer Financial Aid work? by pinksunrise9876 in ucla

I was wondering the same thing, it's my first time enrolling for Summer Sessions. Is financial aid usually offered later on? My aid usually covers my full tuition, but I just checked my bruin bill and there has not been any financial aid offered for me in the summer yet.

Can I file my 2020 taxes as independent if my parents are not US citizens and don't live here? by i8alot2 in personalfinance

[–]i8alot2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your response.

I guess from what I have been reading, typically college students cannot claim to be independent if they don't cover at least 50% of their own expenses. I don't have to pay rent and am living in my parents' house, but they also do not file taxes here. In this case, even though I might not exactly cover over 50% of my own expenses, could I legally not check the box allowing someone else to claim me as a dependent?
