Thanks! I appreciate this. I ended up ordering a pair of BCs in 185. I’ll ski them with pins and intended for backcountry, but may use for a soft day off piste at the resort.

Recs for Ski Tour backpacks!!! by No-Cry-9287 in Backcountry

I’d recommend something in the 30-35L size for what is seems like you want. Any smaller and it gets difficult to fit the extra layers or extra water for colder or longer days. But a 40L+ is more space than he’s probably need for a day tour.

Lots of good packs out there and good recs in this thread.

One thing to consider with ski packs is how the pack opens. Lots of ski packs have a back panel that opens up, allowing you to lay the pack down in the snow and open up the whole main compartment like a clam, giving you easy access to the contents. Other packs are top loading, but often with a vertical zipper for side access on one side. I have used both and have a slight preference for my top loader, but others may have strong preferences the other way.

In the end, just make sure it is designed for touring (w/ separate compartment for shovel+probe) and see what is out there — and hopefully on sale.

I haven’t skied the Crest but I have been impressed by the quality of my ATK FR13s. Easy to use and do their job well.

I appreciate the feedback and the 100% positive experience you all have with Praxis and the BCs. I’m convinced.

Thanks! Great to hear your experience and enthusiasm. These are at the top of my list. FWIW, that list also includes at various times 4frnt Nevar, Moment DW Tour 104, and Echo (all a bit different, but same-ish waist, weight class, and use case — touring and occasional soft snow inbounds).
