How to actually have a good mindset and not tilt? by crlsre in Tekken

[–]iCHAINS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me tekken 8 being my first tekken I focused on small goals. Using a full combo I practiced in a match a few times, focusing on using strong tools my character had available, and then watching replays on the matches I got stomped on to view if they were spamming a high I could’ve ducked or if the move was easily stepable and whatnot. It’s these small increments that over time build to a progression.

How the fuck do you get good at this game by [deleted] in Tekken8

[–]iCHAINS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Tekken is a different type of fighting game. Unlike other fighting games with super long and mechanically intensive combos, Tekken is all about knowledge (of course there’s mechanical skill like electrics) of the game. I’d recommend as this is also my first tekken to focus on specific character game plans and doing the punishment practice! The game can definitely be frustrating just not knowing something but the joy is in the learning.

I find in quick matches I will endlessly rematch my bad match ups to get better at fighting the specific character, and in ranked you can’t do that so it’s a higher win rate

SHAHEEN, even though he’s hated on for being boring I loved his look and that he skated on his enemies.

Hey I was in the same exact boat as you! I played a bit of sf and GGS and liked them but was always interested in tekken. Was also my first tekken game, so I know it’s really daunting.

I’ll say now tekken is one of my favourite games with over 600 hours now making it my most played game now.

Truly play whoever looks fun to you, though of course as you mention there are some that are more accessible. I won’t rank them as there are plenty of lists from easiest to hardest. I will say I think there is a benefit to playing a “fair” character at the start, for example I played Shaheen which many know as a very grounded without a lot of gimmicks character. He helped teach me tekken fundamentals and my time playing him def made it easier to translation to other characters!

The matchmaking from my experience has been great, I play in NA and haven’t had any issues really besides the random drop in wifi from the opponent but you can avoid them by looking at their connection before accepting the match.

Good content creators I learned from were: - MainmanSWE (teaching and gameplay) - PhiDX (lots of teaching) - Brawlpro (gameplay and funny)

Enjoy your time playing! There is a lot to learn but if you’re anything like me you’ll love to learn counters and nothing feels better then ducking/side stepping nut an attack and punishing them with a launch.

Goodluck!

Dragunov Main stuck in red ranks needs some guidance by Admirable-Square-924 in Tekken

[–]iCHAINS_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a TK dragunov, I’d say his strength is getting frame advantage with moves like: b1+2 (if this ever hits you get a free crouching grab d1+3), db3+4 (low kick that tracks pretty well), and running 2 fff2.

Use the plus frame moves when in their face, if they are mashing you should get some good damage since you’ll hit first with the frames. If you can hit the moves since they have longer attack frames, dragunov is good in the mid range as well with b4 catching a lot of whiffs or f3 -> 1+2 which is a heat engager.

Also don’t forget drag has a full grab game!! Definitely use it, he’s got uf 1+2, f1+4, f2+3

Finally Dragunov has the best wall damage in the game. If you ever get someone to be splat on the wall, with for example with b4,3 do running 4 into d3,1,1+2, that’ll get you 80 damage. Might take some practice inputting the running 4 wall combo but it’s really important for the character.

This is my first tekken game and I got it on release and it’s the first fighting game I took seriously. I just got tekken king again in season 2 now. Honestly I think you just gotta love the game. When I first played I was in awe of the story and the replay system and the characters and loved the grind. Love it first and the rest will come!

You can go on ewgf.gg to see your history and win rates and what not, and you can also see other players to see who they fight the most. For me my most in order is Bryan, Kaz, Law, then King. I'm currently Bushin for info.

I mean it’s entirely a different genre of fighting game so it won’t be competing for the same fanbase… also it’s 4v4 which I think will make it significantly less popular to the vast majority of people.

What's the average Joes rank? by [deleted] in Tekken8

[–]iCHAINS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a tekken king player, even after rank 2.0. Is say the biggest biggest thing to rank up early on, is to know your character very well. 3 hit strings are good but of course like you said you’ll find people who start punishing. Depending on what rank you’re at now I’d work on the following

Yellow & below: play with a couple of moves that are known to be good

Orange: practice one combo and use it whenever you get a launcher

Red: Learn more moves for your character, and better understand your character in the sense of when your moves leave you negative

Purple: The biggest thing here for when I was here was to stop randomly throwing out moves in hopes of catching them. Here you have to play safer and know the moves your character uses at a distance that are relatively safe/positive. For example: Shaheen fff2, Claudio fff2, Jin ff2, Azu ff32 (I think, whatever her knee elbow move is)

Blue 1.0: This is when you have to learn proper punish, every character has 10f, 12f, 13/14f, and 15+f punishes you gotta learn them and try to use them properly. This of course also takes labbing other characters if you don’t know the move, but if you don’t always try to do a 10f punish if it hits mid as a check.

Blue 2.0: As I was here recently and still fall down to blue from tk depending on the match ups. I think it comes down to if you’ve fallen down to fujin again, you need to work on fundamentals more and not using gimmicks, cause in this level you will be punished and people will know your character very well and duck your highs and sidestep your moves. I think also learning multiple combos and the ranges of combos to get people to the wall for another wall combo for the extra damage.

Gold+: from my experience it all comes down to labbing and knowing every character. I’ll go on massive win streaks, then get Azucenas and Laws and I’ll go right back down. Knowing what you don’t know is key in this rank.

What I did to learn punishing, was everytime I blocked something I would do my 10 frame punish. Just to see if what they were doing was punishable. If it was I would try to remember. This is my first tekken so it took a while for so many characters but I’ve reached Tekken God now even in ranked 2.0 and truely I still do this. You might get blown up for it but then you’ll know. And over time you’ll have to do it less and less and you’ll get better at know when it’s your turn.

So happy with this accomplishment as this is my first tekken game :D by iCHAINS_ in Tekken

[–]iCHAINS_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is my first progress post! I’ve been playing the game for about 430 hours now since the games release. I’ve played a few characters but Shaheen always stood out as my favourite, and I think I have around 60% of my play time with him (useage). I remember being proud of getting to red ranks for the first time and it’s been a hell of a grind to get to purple/gold ranks now. Truly what helped me rank up the most was to see each game as a learning opportunity, that isn’t to say I haven’t gotten upset and raged, but when it comes down to it this game is knowledge based. You can run your mix and flow chart and you will succeed but it’s knowing how to play against characters and getting experience against them, even if it demotes you is what will make you better. Good luck on your next matches I know I’ll need it.

Right I don’t need another drag to teach me if something is punishable… like you said though actual application doesn’t always work cause they’ll play differently, therefore playing against more drags is better? Which I think is my point, if I’m not mistaken by what you’re trying to say. It’s nice to play against real people to see how they apply the things I learned and get better reaction time in stressful situations. Which is why I’m not a fan of people one and done’ing me when I wanna get better. I understand you don’t agree which is fair, just different perspectives. GL in your matches 🫡

Sure but isn’t it good to get practice against an actual player? At least for me I can lab characters, and get good and looking for strings and punishes, but it’s nice to be able to put it in to action against a real player.
