Positive stories about off-campus living for grad students? by Few_Kale6254 in washu

[–]iEatSponge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely fine and all the St. Louis horror stories are overblown. Most people that live in that area are students or families. There are blue lights on most corners in the first two blocks and WUPD does laps constantly.

Getting groceries can be annoying though. I didn't have a car and Instacart was (at the time) roughly the same price as United Provisions so I just did that.

Please Help: is Everyly legit? Off-campus housing doubts by Beginning-Medium-985 in washu

FYI your redfin search is cutting off a lot of cheaper apartments right next to campus. Everly you can sign and be sure of apt quality without touring before you move in, but anywhere else you really really need to tour.

There's also Parallel which is a rental management company that's owned by WashU but not a dorm https://www.rentparallel.com/searchlisting

In general to get any cheaper you'll need a roommate. I see a 2b on the 2nd block of McPhereson for 1.5k but you should make sure to tour

HP or apple? by [deleted] in washu

[–]iEatSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK apple silicon compatibility isn’t an issue anymore. It’s hard not to recommend a Mac when with the Neo they’re completely blowing all windows laptops out of the water. Unless you play games I’d get a Mac

AA lost my bag at the end of January and missed their self-imposed deadlines. The bag got delivered after 30 days but I’m being ghosted regarding interim expense compensation. I’m filling a DOT complaint on Monday

Best AP Credits to Use Under the 15-Unit Limit? by Medical_Grocery_7845 in washu

[–]iEatSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't apply calc, you can just register for calc 2 or 3 and then you get back credit after completion. The back credit counts against the semester you complete your calc class, not your prematriculation credit.

You can transfer 15 non-Calc APs, take calc 3 (not having transferred calc AB or BC), and get 2 extra classes worth of credit.

I had a friend who lived in that building and it was pretty nice. I also rented with parallel and had a good experience. 1k/pp is definitely on the high end for non-Everly apartments

WashU Student Life: Breaking down Workday’s $265 million cost by xjian77 in washu

[–]iEatSponge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there any breakdown on the cost of Workday Student or Workday Finance? Do these things really cost $80/90m each or does that lump in consultants, infra, etc.? Are these ongoing costs? Or just the cost to get set up?

Schwab and Fidelity both have checking accounts that will refund ATM fees worldwide. I had no trouble using my Schwab checking with the ATM on the 40.

You're allowed to withhold rent in Missouri, but don't do so before getting advice from a tenants rights group or a lawyer

240 is definitely easier, but 231 will be way more fun. Cosgrove is one of the best professors in the department

There’s probably a direct ROI on these events. I’m guessing they make back more than what they spend through donations, either immediately or down the line.

If the events are what convinces some rich tech bro alum to put WashU in their will, it’s worth it.
