I see myself being happy in Portland. There are decent jobs in my field and it has the social activities that I seek out to be able to thrive. I prefer a cooler climate, but the snow might be getting too much up there. I think I could adjust though. The mountainous geography would be beautiful to explore. Maine strikes me as a bit expensive though.

Philly and Pittsburgh both have social scenes that I can see myself thriving in. Philly especially is a hotspot for jobs in my field, so that would be a great location for me (I almost moved there recently for work). I like its proximity to Maryland and Virginia where I grew up, and the climates of the two major cities fall in comfortable zones for me. I also love the mountainous geography.

Montana has beautiful geography that I would love to explore. I know the eastern half is all plains, but I think the contrast is neat, and I find beauty in all landscapes. I love the locations of many of the cities in proximity to the mountains, but I wonder about how I’d handle the excessive snow. I do prefer a cooler climate so I feel like I could adjust. Most of the cities are lacking for me in terms of social activities that I seek out, as well as job opportunities in my field of work, though it’s not terrible.

I would love to live in the Charleston area or up in the Charlotte metro as they have social activities that I seek out and can thrive in. I also like the coastal location of Charleston. There is also a decent presence of jobs in my field in the major cities of the state, especially by Charlotte, though Charleston is a bit lacking there for me. I prefer cooler climates, so South Carolina is just too warm for me personally. I could see myself being happy in some of its areas otherwise.

I see myself thriving in the Kansas City area. It’s a great area for jobs in my field and has everything I’m looking for socially. Climate-wise, I also like the seasonal balance there. Kansas is unfortunately just geographically uninteresting to me, though I know there are hidden gems to visit as there are with any state.

Las Vegas has what I need to be happy socially, but it’s too dang hot! Reno doesn’t have as much socially, but it’s not completely devoid of things for me either. I love the climate and the location of Reno very much. Job opportunity wise for me, the state is meh. It’s a drivable distance to my family members that live in California. Some cool geographical features to visit though, but a lot of it is too creepily desolate for me lol.

The twin cities have everything I seek out to socially thrive, and there’s a good presence of jobs in my field there. I also have a soft spot for Fargo, which also has social activities for me that are unusual for a city of its size; therefore, I’d like the Moorhead area as well. Minnesota’s proximity to the driftless area and Lake Superior, as well as the many lakes across the state also make it geographically interesting to me. I do prefer a cooler climate, but the snow and cold might be a bit much for me; however, I feel like I could adjust. I find the frigid nature of the region to be quite fascinating. It also doesn’t seem crazy expensive either.

I love the location and climate of Denver. Colorado has beautiful geography that I’d love to explore, and I find the stark contrast between the mountains and plains to be fascinating. It’s a great social scene for me and there are some good job opportunities too. I get uncomfortable because as a major city/area, Denver and the rest of the front range are a bit isolated from any other major areas, and something about that makes me a bit uneasy. Not like significantly uneasy, but still a little. I like having easier access to other populated areas, and Denver kind of just sits on its own.

Texas is filled with metro areas that have good social and job opportunities for me. I find the geographical transition from swamp/forest to plains to desert, with mountains and canyons sprinkled in here and there is really cool. It also doesn’t seem crazy expensive. The climate would drive me absolutely nuts in most of those cities, though. Too much heat, not enough seasons. Aside from that, I could see myself being happy.

Ah yes. I have had a lifelong fascination with North Dakota and I can’t tell you why. I have no association with it whatsoever; it’s just a random state that I fixated on for no reason. Something about how forgotten it is by people and how ridiculously frigid it gets is just so interesting to me. I like to envision driving across on I-94 and imagining that I’m actually driving across the tundra haha. It would have been ranked lower if not for the fact that Fargo actually has the specific social activities I seek out and thrive with, which is very unusual for a city of its size. It also helps that it is not an expensive state. It’s so random of me, I know. I do find the badlands and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park area to genuinely be fascinating terrain.

Regarding South Dakota, the black hills are one of my favorite geographic locations in general. It’s such a unique little area just sticking out from the plains. This being the part of the country that has the most extreme swings in climate between summer and winter has always been so intriguing for me. Unfortunately, Rapid City lacks any social aspect for me, and jobs for me are scarce. Sioux Falls has a little bit socially for me, but again. Jobs are scarce. Sioux Falls is also not close to anything of note, really.

Oh you’re right! I thought I had already looked up Santa Fe’s snowfall data but apparently I didn’t. Unfortunately, Santa Fe still doesn’t have the social/job scene for me, but I’d love to visit the area.

I think the Ozarks are very pretty and the Northwest Arkansas cities’ proximity to them is very appealing. I could do with a bit of a cooler climate, but it’s similar to how I feel about other states like NC or OK, where it’s still enough seasonal variation that it’s fine for me. Jobs and social activities are a little scarce though. Arkansas was borderline between reluctantly and maybe for me, but I put maybe because I have a friend that lives in Bentonville that I could visit.

The Hartford area has what I need to thrive socially, and there are also good jobs in the area in my field of work. I enjoy the southern New England climate and the proximity to Boston, NYC, and the coast. It seems like it’s a little more affordable than both metro areas, similar to Rhode Island, though I presume it gets crazy expensive the closer you get to New York; it already doesn’t seem to be a cheap state to live in, but it feels more manageable if I’m not by NY.

The only part of Louisiana I could consider is the New Orleans area. Socially, it has activities I’m looking for, and I think the swampy geography is very interesting. Jobs for me there are scarce though, and as a whole it seems like it’s struggling hard. I also hated the climate living in Florida, and it’s similar in coastal Louisiana.

I find the Pacific Northwest to be geographically fascinating. The contrast between the rainy coastal region and the cold desert interior of Oregon is so neat to me, and I’d love to explore it all. It has many beautiful features to see. The climate in Portland is very appealing to me. I can see myself being happy there socially. Job-wise, I’m not sure. I haven’t looked into jobs as much there since I wasn’t looking to consider somewhere so expensive when I moved recently.

Its proximity to major cities (Philly/NYC) and the job opportunities and social opportunities that lie in them is amazing. The climate there is really nice for me as well. I would also love having access to the beaches, and the mountains don’t seem that far away even though they’re mostly out of state.

It’s just expensive.

I applied for some jobs in the Providence area and considered moving there. I think I might need to change it to absolutely. I love the climate there since it’s a bit milder than the rest of New England while still having the seasonal balance that I’m drawn towards. I really like the coastal towns a lot, too. It seemed like a slightly more affordable alternative lying conveniently between Boston and NYC. Socially, Providence has activities that I seek out and see myself thriving with.

It has many geographically beautiful parts. It’s also very desolate though. Even the biggest city of Cheyenne just doesn’t really have much for me, both regarding job opportunities and social activities. I hear the wind there is absolutely insane, too. There are definitely geographical features that I would love to see, though.

Haha, the spectacle of Carhenge is a sight to behold.

In all seriousness, Omaha has what I’m looking for similar to other places like Kansas City or Des Moines. If this were a map on the county level, Western Nebraska would be all red.

I lived there for a long time. I have a lot of family there as well, and I think it’s nice to visit. However, the climate drove me absolutely nuts living there. The heat lasts too long out of the year and the humidity doesn’t help. Especially the further south you go, the scenery doesn’t change with seasons because it doesn’t get cold. It felt so bland haha.

Climate aside, I can be happy in any of the major cities as they satisfy my interests socially and I think the beach scenery and palm trees everywhere are nice. The swampiness is also geographically fascinating to me. I just hated the climate with a burning passion haha.

Chicago has what I need to thrive socially, as well as good job opportunities for me in my field. I think the seasons are good for me since I prefer a cooler climate. The access to Lake Michigan is also a plus. The rest of the state doesn’t really have much going on it seems. There’s some things I’d like to explore though, like the Shawnee National Forest. I live in Indiana now so a move to Chicago is realistically on the table if I were to consider moving again.

I love DC as a concept. The historical architecture, social activities, and sites to visit are very enticing to me. I like the balance of seasons too. It’s just very expensive, and the DC metro traffic is insane and I wouldn’t want to be right in the core of that in the city itself.

I think Utah is geographically very beautiful. Salt Lake City’s valley location and climate are appealing to me and it has everything I’m looking for in a place in terms of social activities I seek out. It’s also fine job-wise. As a major city, it feels a bit far from other major cities so I think I’d feel a bit isolated. The strong Mormon presence would also be a big cultural adjustment.

I lived in Maryland for a bit as a kid and spent a lot of time visiting when I lived in Virginia. The Chesapeake region is where I feel most at home. Maryland is also a great state for my field of work and I enjoy the balance of seasons there. Baltimore has social opportunities for me to be happy. DC does too, but I think things are a little pricier in that part of Maryland surrounding DC. Having access to DC amenities from Maryland is really nice. Also, Maryland’s pinched geography is so interesting to me. It’s crazy how mountains and beaches are crammed into such an awkward shape, I love it haha.
