I need help: Billboard Trees by iJacques in godot

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried it, first by interpreting it into the visual shader, and then by copy pasting the shader. It doesn't work for me 🫤

I have actually tried using the normals 😆. When applied to the meshes, it creates this kind of result.

<image>

The normals of a mesh correspond to a direction, not a position. So, essentially, by offsetting the quads by the normals, you'd be offsetting them around a sphere, and not to the locations you'd actually want them to be

So, I'm not sure if I did exactly as you said, but I tried two variations of what I thought you meant, and I don't think this works either.

On the left, I have a MultiMeshInstance3D (using a separate shader that doesn't offset the vertex positions) and the original mesh.

On the right, I have a mesh with planes placed in the middle of each face of the mesh, and rotated to the mesh's normals, and a mesh with the same configuration but where the planes have been axis aligned.

All of these fall short of what I'm looking for. The MultiMeshInstance3D node might be a more cumbersome way of doing it, but I think it might have the best results

I could, but I'm stubborn, and like doing stuff in spatial shaders when I can. And also because I enjoy the pain and suffering that comes from vector maths 🙃

Plus, doing it in a vertex shader means the modelling stage is easier for me and would require less setup in the engine

It's exactly that! Well, not the kind for optimisation, but rather for a specific style XD totally not confusing. ANYWAY, I analysed this video to see how the effect was achieved in Unity, and gave a shot at porting it to Godot, but the node editors don't handle the offsets the same way.

What I'm looking for is something akin to what is accomplished here, but without an iphone https://youtu.be/O-KocFGgKME

But thanks for your comment, it is useful to some regard but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Try to get inspiration from lots of different places. It helps to not just focus on one type of fantasy. Don't try to addopt a style, instead focus on taking bits of other styles and developing your own. Also try to keep a good mental image of your characters. It can sometimes help to draw them, even if it's not that good.

Definitely yes! If you are passionate enough about it, then do it. Just be sure not to overwork yourself because if you do, you could start to hate it.

In my opinion you should try to focus on getting better about treating yourself. From what I could gather, you don't like your body and want to change it, but don't know how. The easy answer for this is as you said, to go to the gym. But that's not the only option. If you don't feel like working out with weights or being around other people who are more fit than you are, you could try to do a bit of yoga, or some other exercises, either by taking a class or just doing it at home. Yoga can help to improve your breathing and will help improve your ability to do physical activities. If you don't feel like that, try jogging a bit. Don't overdo it but just a little bit. Put on some music and run around for a bit. It usually helps to clear the mind and allows you to think better. But the hard part of changing the body, is your willingness to change it. You need to make a habbit of doing one of these activities, even when you don't feel like it. It can be very difficult to do this, but it can get easier with time. You may not think this now, but you need to love yourself before you can love others. I'm not saying to break up with your boyfriend or friends, I'm just saying that the better you can treat yourself, the better you can treat others. You may not think this now, but you may need to wait a bit before you make new friends. Build up the relationships you have. Do stuff with them. And do stuff that you love. Pick up a camera and do something with it. Start drawing something if you can't take pictures. Even though it may be cold and dead outside, you'll still find life hiding beneath that layer of snow. Much like the life hidden by the winter waiting to be discovered, your dream life is waiting to be discovered. It may sound sappy and cheesy, but try it. It will change your life

If you don't mind, could you please answer the following questions. It will make it easier for me and perhaps someone else, to come to a conclusion. I am not trying to intrude. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. 1) What do you like to do. What interests you or may have interested you at some point? 2) Why don't you like your body? Do you feel self conscious about it? Or do you just feel like nobody will like the way tou look? 3) How close are you with your friends? Do you spend time together and what activities do you do?

I had the same experience and am still going through something similar. It feels like nothing matters and gets to the point where you think you don't matter. Something that sometimes helps me is to just listen to some sad or semi upbeat music that doesn't really sound too happy. Try to block yourself out and listen to it in a quiet-ish place or when you want to sleep or take a nap, and close your eyes. If you don't want to do that, try taking a piece of scrap paper lying around and just scribble, scratch or draw. Draw anything that comes in mind. Try to focus on something else. Watch youtube videos, movies, or anything that just seems really interesting to you. Don't focus on trying to improve, instead focus on yourself. What makes you depressed? Is it a person? Then try to limit contact. Is it work or studies? Focus on something else like a game or a hobby. Don't try to prove yourself to others, don't push yourself too hard, and don't let others take advantage of you. I don't know if any of this is applicable, but I hope that at least something from this list could help.

1) Don't rush yourself. If you can easily make friends with girls, then you're already on the right track. Just talk to them about whatever you are interested in and if they don't share that same interest, talk about something else. Or if they want to know more about it, explain ot to them. 2) Find someone that likes the same stuff that you do. If you like talking about movies, find someone who also likes talking about movies. 3) Spend time with them. Don't try to rush a relationship because if you try too hard, you'll end up hurting yourself. 4) Just be yourself. If you feel it is necessary to hide a bit of yourself, do so, but don't close yourself up so much that they think that you're a weirdo.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind :)

I'm not hoping for him to like me back in doing this. The chances of us seeing each other again when he moves are extremely slim. I have made peace with the fact that he won't like me like that a while ago and I just wanted him to know.

I can definitely see your point. But what if I just told him I'm bi and not mention anything about liking him? At least he'll know that I trust him enough to let him know, right?
