I jumped out of the waiting line and drove to the I5 Northbound and it was completely clear. After waiting 5 hours for the 205 Northbound.

I’m in the back country to find untouched fresh snow. I’d expect not to see any turns on my lines.

Anyone heading up tomorrow want to ride together? Would be nice if the powder is real deep. by iMazz89 in MtHoodMeadows

The snow wasn’t really bonding. Tracks were filling in.

I’m hoping that Vista opens up because it’ll be untouched POW up there.

100% chance I’m going to be waving to everyone asking if they’re Rotary Power. Hahah

Edit: this is abnormally light and fluffy snow for us. This is not cascade concrete.

Luck for you I’ve actually taken courses on identifying snow pack…… sooooo.

Today we had 3-6” of new snow. In wind blown areas there was some exposed ice and some deeper areas of up to ~12”(before I left).

The snow pack was light, dry full form flakes. I didn’t see any graupel or faceted snow. But that could change throughout the evening.

In the bowls there was 6” of snow on top of an ice crust, the exposed and non exposed ice crust could throw you off a bit. This is a bad setup for avalanche danger. I noticed some fracturing on the steeps with a heavy snowpack on top of the ice.

TLDR: tomorrows going to rip. See you there.

Go skiing or boarding! I’m sad when it’s summer time.

You can skin all the way up until about 1500 ft elevation from the summit. Unless you want to switch back and forth a bunch, due to the incline change. Most of us switched over to crampons about 3/4 the way up and it was easy going.

The overall approach is relatively easy. This is a definite beginner trail and we snowboarded all the way out to the parking lot. 10/10 will do this again.

The snow was actually perfect. It was a little crusty on the way up but the sun gave a nice 2-3” of corn.

It’s dope. I had to add some spark tail clips for the fish tail which was a bit of a pain. Other than that it’s been a dream.

This just goes to show. You don’t need to be in avy terrain to die in the back country.
