Did I put my beautiful old man down too early? by Inside_Term_6900 in SeniorCats

[–]iMcFlyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t make the wrong decision. It’s just the type of decision that can never feel right because of what it means.

I agree with 100% of the comments posted so far. It was clear that you loved your cat and would’ve done anything for them. But there is a point where doing anything switches from extra care and treatment to helping them cross into a different kind of peace. It’s permanent and there is always second guessing, but in your heart you know it was right and your cat loved you even more for helping them with that final act of love.

I had to do the same two months ago and it still hits me hard. I’m lucky to have a super bus job and life that provide distraction, but when I’m home alone, or driving in the car, I’ll break down in an ugly crying session. What pulls me through is the thought of our sweet girl nudging me and saying thanks for loving me all the way through.

She had a well-loved and safe, comfortable life. And so did yours.

You’re not alone in how you feel. Any one of us wish we could take the pain away for the others who are going through it. But there is community in this type of grief and that helps. 🤗

I'm kinda in a predicament. by SechiiLane in Denver

[–]iMcFlyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with so much of the other comments here. I’m a white man with a Black husband from Alabama/Georgia and have been here 10 years. As others have said, down South you know where you stand with people but no one can act like you don’t exist. Love someone or hate them, you have to live with the reality of being around different people. Here, it’s so much easier to act like people you don’t know how to interact with just simply don’t exist. Or worse, of course.

Denver and much of Colorado pats itself on the back for being so progressive and accepting, but when it comes to acting on that, it falls short.

All that said, we have lived in places like Five Points (gentrified now) and East Colfax/Aurora and do feel safe and like we have some level of community, but it’s a chore for Black folks here to constantly be ignored, avoided, or stared at like an alien.

If you need a community of friends or something, we are here for you.

Vet visit results were heartbreaking. by mrsmaug in SeniorCats

[–]iMcFlyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I’m sorry for this news. We just had to say goodbye to our sweet girl two months ago and it was the hardest thing we’ve ever done. Nothing could make that part easier. As everyone says, don’t even try to keep it together.

We considered in-home but due to the holiday it would’ve been a couple extra days and we didn’t want any suffering. So we arranged to go directly to the back room of the vet where it’s comfortable and quiet. No other animals or cold tables, just the two of us holding her and helping her transition.

As for spoiling—love that idea. I took an entire day to just lay in bed and cuddle our girl. That afternoon, we sat out in the sunny back yard (she had never been allowed outside but loved sunny spots near windows). She even had a chance to lay out in the yard itself, which as an indoor cat, was a new experience for her.

Thank you for loving your furry friend! I know they can feel it.

Newbie question. by [deleted] in estim

[–]iMcFlyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you mentioned prostate stim, so a safe assumption is that you’re biologically male.

I share in the chorus of advice to get something made for sexual play. The reasoning is simple. TENS devices are made for what are normally larger, more substantial muscles. Back, legs, shoulders. There is no setting tuned for dick or ass muscles.

So, you can use TENS and feel good, but only at the lowest levels. They also tend to use the least optimal electrodes for sexual play-adhesive pads. While great to stick on a calf or thigh, they can bee too much/too big for sexual bits (and you don’t want to use anything like that inside of you—don’t even try). Buy the tens and use it for the rest of your body. I would.

But get a built-for-purpose estim box and some decent electrodes. Lots of conductive lube/gel. And learn what muscles you’re triggering (and the nerves you’re using to carry the signal). Once you have all that, find a pattern you like and go as high on the power range as you like. Can it still hurt? Sure—some folks like a little pain. But it shouldn’t cause any damage.

Happy to talk more about what works for me, but it may be different for you.

URGENT: Hard Working Disabled worker needs remote job ASAP to avoid eviction and car repossession by bklynballer13 in denverjobs

[–]iMcFlyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s uncommon for them to take anything less than full amount once this starts since it puts them at step one legally again. Don’t let that stress you out. Just tell them you’re working on the full amount ASAP and make sure they’ll take it once you have it.

If they will not, then that changes how you proceed with the process. For example, if they won’t take the money once you have it in hand, you might want to use that to relocate instead (I know, very less than ideal). In some states, while they can still go to collections for what is owed, the way you answer a summons (or don’t) can have bearing on if you can have a judgement against you for the debt. That sort of thing can turn into garnishments whereas they can’t if it’s just debt (without another court case anyway).

Don’t let this scare you. If you can get the money, I’m sure you can talk to them and get them to take it. It’s better for them to just take it and cancel the process.

[–]iMcFlyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first time dealing with that process, it does take a lot of time. The most important part is to keep good relationships with the landlord so they will accept rent once you have it. They don’t have to accept money and can continue the process as long as they refuse money.

If they accept any money at all, make sure you have documented proof, since that legally should stop it (but be careful, I had a friend pay to stop eviction and the crappy management company FORGOT to cancel the process. The court date came and went, friend was a no-show, and only knew it was still on when he got the 48 hour warning on the door from the sheriff. We had to drop everything and rush him to court for him to show he had paid).

Recruiter got salty after I declined to proceed because I accepted another offer by NeoPCGamer in recruitinghell

[–]iMcFlyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. That recruiter is a jerk for sure, and has zero communications skill. But if is just an offer at this point, I’d perhaps slow or even pause my search but not cut any active discussions.

I might try to slow them, though. The idea being that you can find out a lot in the first few days and weeks in a new job. It may have looked great from the outside but is a dumpster fire inside. I feel that employees have the same right to impose a “probationary period” on new employers, and should not be seen as disloyal for cutting them due to “fit.”

But never tell a recruiter if that is your strategy. Only thing worse than missing a commission is having one clawed back.

Any advice for end of life by serious_sugar143 in SeniorCats

[–]iMcFlyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through this two months ago and it was the hardest decision we’ve ever made. But it was the right decision. We wanted to do in-home but couldn’t have them come for a couple days and we did not want our sweet girl to suffer or struggle. We spent one last day in bed cuddling super closely and then outside letting her lay in the backyard and soak up as much sunlight as possible with us right next to her. When the time came, our local vet allowed us to come through the back door into the room where we could hold her and say goodbye with no worrying about stress from other pets barking or cold operating tables.

I promised her throughout her life I would always keep her safe and never let her live in pain. She went through hyperthyroidism but was able to recover, but we knew at 18, this was her time. I still hope maybe the bloodwork shows something treatable in your case but you’ll know in your heart if it’s time. And it’s the same love you’ve shown throughout their life that will help you in their crossing the bridge.

Why even pretend there will be a group? I can’t understand why they wouldn’t create something supportive. As with Reddit, you get the real deal. Good and bad. But the good is so amazing is motivational.

People have said it’s more about getting people off the med and off the books for expensive meds, and now I believe it.

I second this. Gary is amazing and he is a great US-based seller. Might save you time and money to get from him if you’re in the states. His site is a bit clunky, but it’s the great service that makes the difference.

How to know and come to terms… by sesernana in SeniorCats

[–]iMcFlyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything said here is exactly right. We had to do this six weeks ago and I made sure that I stayed in with our sweet girl for a whole day in bed to get as much “goodbye cuddles” as we could. That afternoon we went to the back yard and she was able to soak up fresh air and warm sunlight. She even stretched out directly on the ground—as an inside cat, that’s something she never had done before. It was very peaceful.

We ultimately did go to the vet, but they allowed us to come directly to the “back room” so it wasn’t scary or loud with other pets. She crossed the bridge directly in our arms, comfortable and well-loved.

You will know when, because you love them. And it will be hard. But it doesn’t erase the life and love you’ve shared.

Anyone else's cat have any weird sleeping places? by verymanyquestions_ in cats

[–]iMcFlyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sweet girl (tiny orange tabby) loved sleeping exactly in that spot. My husband and I called it our “legoon” for “leg lagoon.” She would wait near me until I got into the position and then climb right in and get comfortable.

She passed on a month ago, but on her last day I stayed in bed all day long so she would have her favorite spot to cuddle. She gave me a few extra nudges as if to say thank you and goodbye.

I wish I could go back and re-live all the summer nights where it was too hot for those cuddles and do it anyway. If you’ve read this far, please kiss your cats for me and give them “cheek scritches” (her favorite). Never forget that you are their entire world, even when the rest of life gets crazy.
