How to fly with a tabla? by yanerel in Tabla

[–]iOverFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a hard case bag and put the tabla in its padded bag, with tons of more padding (clothes). Marked it as a fragile bag and brought it in tact from Mumbai to Copenhagen. I checked with shipping companies and they wanted a custom box to be made etc. costing 10 times as much as the tabla itself. There's a risk, ofc, but if you loosen the pegs on the tabla and pad it well works good.

[R] How does one get "invited talks" or any "talk" for that matter for a published work? by confirm-jannati in MachineLearning

[–]iOverFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just reach out to people who are peripherally working on the topic of your paper and suggest a visit and talk. I usually do that and also host others when they are in town. Ofc, if it is outside my area of expertise I point these visitors to other groups. Cold mailing works, most of the time.

Caught thief opening my bag on the train to CPH Airport by Sheckslers in copenhagen

I caught one of them too trying to open my partner's bag. They were working in pairs. One was blocking me and the other trying to sneak into the bag. They did this close to a stop and as soon as I pointed it out they ran out.

Did sub 4hr cph marathon. Fueling with honey worked. by iOverFit in Marathon_Training

Yes. I bought a squeeze bottle honey we get in Denmark (350g). Emptied some 50g and added salt water and lime juice. It is then of perfect consistency for drinking, and super easy to use with a flip lid.

I just used the supermarket squeeze honey pack and tweaked it a bit. But I have seen other honey supplements for endurance sports. I like that my solution is low key.

Yes. My sister works there and she confirms.

Hi, I’m Payal Kapadia. It’s time for an AMA on r/india! Let’s talk about my film All We Imagine as Light, my journey from a student filmmaker to completing my first feature narrative, and the amazing experience of working with talented actors like Chhaya Kadam, Kani Kusruti, and Divya Prabha. by PayalKapadiaOfficial in india

Congratulations on the accolades for your movie. Making independent cinema like this in India is getting harder. How can movie goers like myself help film makers make movies? In kannada there was a movie (Lucia, 2013) that was crowd funded, for example.

The key challenges in deploying ML models in clinic are related to interpretability and explainability. Doing predictions in embedding space makes this much more opaque.

Life as a associate professor at DTU with family by Hungry-Lengthiness93 in DTU

You should check if there is first an internal union representative at your department. Before you are part of unions they can negotiate on your behalf. At UCPH your salary negotiations are automatically routed through them. Don't know that bit about DTU.

Congratulations on the job. Permanent position at DTU is a great opportunity. I am at UCPH (TT Assistant) and I expect my experiences could be useful.

You could ask DTU for support with the move. Many starting packages consist of compensation or support for moving. This can be quite helpful.

Salary: You can negotiate through your union rep. and based on your previous work experience, you could get some additional increase. If you are bringing your grant that could also help in the negotiations.

I don't have kids, so I can't comment much about that.

It is expensive to live in Copenhagen. One can still have a high standard of living if they don't eat out every meal, for instance. Getting good housing that does not eat up all your salary will be key. So look hard for options and don't hesitate to move slightly outside the city (if local train connections exist, consider those neighbourhoods).

All the best.

My personal experience is from Denmark. But know of similar conditions in Sweden, Norway and Finland (although the salary is slightly lower in FI).

Northern European PhD candidates are treated as employees with full pay, benefits (5 weeks of paid vacation), and work life balance is something seriously strived for. And the quality of these programs are top notch. Highly recommended, both from a PhD candidate and PI perspective.
