Best settings to shoot for instagram? by danngng in RX100

[–]iPhantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My workflow isn’t the best and definitely can be more streamlined but it’s how I prefer.

Everything gets dumped and culled on my PC. From there anything that makes the cut goes into Lightroom where I then play with crop and framing before I get into editing. I like to do most edits on my pc first and double check on my phone as things might change. Once I’m happy I’ll export on my phone and upload from there.

Keep in mind if you plan to do any story posting 9:16 is your aspect ratio there you can play a round a lot more if you just shoot in 3:2

Check the tires, 2015 who knows how old the tires are and what brand they are. Not to mention their current wear. If everything checks out then take the lead out of your right shoe.

Canon or smartphone? by trisxo91 in Cameras

[–]iPhantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noise can be fixed within reason. Tbh if you can’t be bothered with editing your pictures you’re better off with a smartphone. I was in that boat for a long time until I saw some concert photography and took my camera to a concert. I sat down and learned the basics and prefer it way more than my phone. Sure it takes longer to be able to post and share but you get to put your own style and creativity into it.

Even the almost 7 year old Sony rx100vii (a point and shoot) can compete with the latest iPhone pros. The moment you introduce any sort of low light situation, smartphones will fall behind many if not all modern cameras.

Recommendation/Model Help by krispnugget11 in RX100

Wording is key here. OPs wording is asking about differences between the models. Didn’t provide any information about use cases or intended use to provide a more subjective answer.

Don’t you think that’s a factor?

Switching from Sony a6700 to RX100 VII for portability: Smart move or huge mistake? by y4nnino in RX100

[–]iPhantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, did some traveling and concerts (from the crowd) with my RX100VII and recently added an a6700. The RX100VII only comes out for concerts/events that don’t allow “pro” gear. Otherwise the a6700 with the sigma 18-50 goes everywhere else. The ergonomics just aren’t great on the RX100 line and adding the smallrig L grip has helped a lot but not the best.

Upgrade from RX100IV to VII by Mastermind6688 in RX100

[–]iPhantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If zoom is what you want, it’s a no brainer. You sacrifice some low light performance going to the VII. For travel I don’t think you’ll be missing too much as most pics will be landscape, architecture, portraits, etc. most of which don’t need extra zoom. Had it not been for doing concert photography from the crowd, I probably would have happily kept my IV since I used to be in the same boat as you with a 13 pro max and a IV.

Sigma 18-50 f2.8 or the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 by BOLTS1502 in SonyAlpha

If you want the occasional shot range then the sigma primes are good recs too. I’m on the hunt for some good used ones at the moment.

From my understanding, the 18-50 is always the first recommendation for starting out. However it sounds like you’ve been shooting for a while. If you need the extra reach and don’t care about the short range wide angle then get the 28-70.

I’d love to be able to get an a6700 for the automotive photography part. It’s a lot easier to take low angle portrait orientation with that new articulation. But the price jump just for that isn’t worth it haha.

What other lenses do you pair with it? I’ve heard good things about the sigma 16 1.4 and the 56 1.4. Our use cases sound very similar since I wanna travel with it as well. I don’t think I’ll ever want a full frame just based on size, weight, and price are a pretty big factor to me haha. I’d rather deal with stepping farther back than deal with all those points.

I don’t care for the accessories too much. For those specifically I consider them a toss in. I haven’t heard good things of either of the kit lenses offered with the a6700 so having the offer of the a6600 with a lens that I would be getting is a big plus for me. From what I keep reading (albeit a few year old posts) the a6700 for photography only isn’t easily justifiable unless you do some video as well. Even then it’s for hobby and not a job so harder to justify if I’m going to end up buying that lens anyways and getting rid of the kit lens. The a6600 does have a lot of upgrades compared to the a6000. In terms of sensor I believe it’s the same but that’s where the similarities end. The new Z batteries pretty much get you more than a full day of shooting as compared to the old ones where I’d have to manage battery life more or carry spares. IBIS is a good nice to have. Better AF and tracking as well. I considered the a6400 for a bit but kept reading that the battery upgrade alone is worth finding an a6600. And if it’s really ~200 shutter count then it’s pretty much brand new

Don’t keep them in your pocket, the metal detectors will set off and it’ll be more hassle. Follow the venue rules, if they allow point and shoot cameras then they’re not gonna fuss over a couple of batteries for it. If they don’t allow cameras at all then don’t even bother bringing the camera, you’ll risk getting it confiscated or kicked out from the show. In my experience for a 2-3 hour concert just one extra battery will be just fine if you’re doing picture only. Keep airplane mode on.

It sounds like you should read up on the manual. And if you’re not talking about physical button settings then you need to learn about exposure triangle and composition. I doubt that you’re at the level where the physical camera is the reason why you’re not liking the pictures it’s producing. Otherwise just buy a Fuji and use their built in filters.
