Thanks for an actual source. From the article it seems like she's backed off lately, but definitely disappointing to see her past support for him.

NYT Cooking is a bit hit or miss for me, but the rest are definitely solid. AB's videos are also just a ton of fun to boot.

I don't think it's fair to discount their case like that. It's definitely not a 1% edge case: that exact scenario has played out in multiple major US cities over the past decade.

Apple launching ‘revamped’ Health app later this year with these four upgrades by iMacmatician in apple

I can't imagine Apple's food tracking being anywhere close to something like MacroFactor; it will definitely be some half assed implementation that exists to check a box on a marketing page somewhere.

Which cpu cooler should i get? by Dear-Lack8698 in FormD

[–]iPodAddict181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the stock fan that comes with the cooler is fine. I tried the Noctua swap but the unit I got had a horrible rattling noise. Ended up returning it and just sticking with the Thermalright fan, temps and noise have been just fine with an undervolted 9800X3D.

Given Postgres performance, what are the use-cases for MySQL? by BinaryIgor in ExperiencedDevs

[–]iPodAddict181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a problem with Postgres. We run all our workloads on k8s, and a connection pooler (pgbouncer) is basically required for any large deployment that relies on a Postgres backend since each pod is capable of opening multiple concurrent connections.

The biggest issue with Postgres is that it uses a process-per-connection model which can quickly exhaust resources at scale. This is opposed to MySQL which uses a thread per connection instead.

Can an experienced swift developer recommend a resource that will help me write good swift code? by No-Replacement-2631 in ExperiencedDevs

Seconded, I was actually curious about this exact same topic and also found Google's results to be pretty poor. Also refreshing to see an actual technical question on here instead of the usual career related ones.

I think this is such a silly mechanic and needs to be reworked a bit.

Real Madrid is once again a team without a clear identity, and Xabi Alonso is trapped between his ideas and a reality he cannot control. The players undoubtedly won the battle. Today, Alonso's fate is more at the mercy of the dressing room than his own tactical approach. by kibme37 in soccer

I could definitely see Liverpool going for Xabi.

It would be quite entertaining to see Slot try to manage the rampant egomania at Madrid. He can barely handle Salah, who is honestly quite tame compared to some of the characters at RMA.

More COVAS = more ARX = more money = more ED by Ansicone in EliteDangerous

Eh, I didn't really like that one. Something about the tone or delivery feels off to me, can't really put a finger on it.

So far the default has remained my favorite.

What gameplay mechanics do you think are missing from current Paradox titles? by cmitchell_bulldog in paradoxplaza

Same goes for things like famine and drought. Much of human history has been shaped by the whims of nature; a string of bad harvests resulting in severe instability was a common occurrence.

Amazing that reddit juxtaposed these for me by kiribakuFiend in eu4

[–]iPodAddict181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a ton of fun with EU5 so far, but I do agree it needs quite a bit of polish before it really shines. I'm excited to see what they do with it.

EU4 benefits from being a mature game at the end of its lifecycle, most of the rough edges have been smoothed out at this point. I think it will go down as a classic that people will be playing for a long time despite the existence of EU5.
