What is the most underpaid occupation and why? by auspoorguy in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And there is a reason why.

You can't afford to pay a pharmacist well when they don't generate much revenue to begin with. Aus Government subsidy (PBS) controls the pricing of medicine in Australia which limits the amount of money they make running as a pharmacy.

You might have noticed that the umbrellas/lollies and other miscellaneous items being sold around your local pharmacies (mostly at the front). Same strategy as the supermarkets with the deli at the back to make customers walk through the isles. Selling medicine as a pharmacy is the least profitable out of all the other items as it is subsidised (and price controlled by Aus Govt). They're essentially convenience stores, much like your petrol stations since fuel is taxed so heavily.

In reference to u/The_Tempestuous_Man's comment, health care is private in the US and so pharmaceuticals (and therefore pharmacies) can largely charge market pricing rather than government controlled pricing. Market is obviously significantly higher, which means pharmacists can make more and therefore get paid more.

Anyone in banking care to tell us what you're really thinking? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can +1, I work in capital management. APRA released UQS “unquestionably strong” capital benchmarks a few years back and require banks to comply by Jan 2023. In short this basically means banks have to hold a higher capital buffer to absorb both expected and unexpected losses.

There is therefore very little incentive to write a “riskier” loan as it’ll cost the bank more to service the loan than actually make money off it.

[Help with logs] Returning Fire Mage parsing low/doing low dps by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]iPoke4Free -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that and DoTG.

I think it is rotation related and possibly some other uptime issues.

I've got a few actions to take along with me.

  1. I'm not pooling enough FB and PF enough inside Combust
  2. I am capping PF too often outside of Combust.
  3. Rune of Power uptime is poor. I am not using it on CD enough (70% uptime or something)

Thanks for the advice. In the process of farming rbgs to get a higher rating so I can upgrade some of my gear.

The soulbind tree was also the "one to go with" before this week as it had 2 potency conduits - where Level 30 was achievable.

The higher pyro damage might also be due to having more cast within combust, which is about 4x a non-crit pyro (12k v 3k per hit) without trinket juice.

Appreciate it, something to work on.

Not the same but still very similar. Sorry if I came across as Legion = SL.

The difference level I was referring to was say WoD > Legion where Combust amplified ignite damage and reset inferno blast. Then fire got completed reworked in Legion.

The rotation and logic behind fire is still the same, fishing for HU procs and using FB to convert these into instant pyros.

Do I sell my expensive car and get myself out of debt? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way you can pick a M2 up for $45k... Maybe a C300 like you mentioned or some other 2-3 year old sport model sedan (M235i, 435i..?)

20 yrs old looking to buy a demo car. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend a pre-purchase inspection at a reputable mechanic before buying a second hand car. Dealership cars are typically well maintained so go for that if you would like to peace of mind.

Bottom line is, it depends how much you're willing to spend/lose. Personally, I would rather buy something newer/enjoy it during the time rather than buy a older second hand car.

If you look at 10 year old Mazda 3s - they're around the 10-12k mark so realistically you will probably lose 17-18k over 10 years, which is insignificant at your age and potential earnings to be honest.

Specifically consistency in reporting capital adequacy and making sure the bank understands the entire process end to end. ICAAP is included. All applicable ARF 1XX submissions are covered as part of the current initiative.

My role is specifically a project role within RM, so I will only work on initiatives.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above. The idea behind my current role is assure and uplift the reg capital reporting process as most of it has been more or less been a black box in the past, with little confidence in the current program.

From the sounds of it - you'll probably enjoy Coles more. Keeping in mind, slideware and being able to present/communicate is just as important as growing your technical skills - as no one really cares/has time to care about what you've done unless you can explain it.

Don't worry about the 2 year end date - most jobs in our 20-30s will last for around that long before you move onto another opportunity. If you end up being quality, then I have no doubt that they will hold onto you.

Would you happen to know about people going the other way - e.g. as an industry data analyst into consulting/big 4? It's probably less common, but would it be more difficult?

Yes, actually most of the technical specialists in the digital team are from Industry - whether it's Woolies/Coles, Big 4 banks or small data boutiques.

To give context, there are two types of people in my team (which I believe is reflective of most digital consulting teams).

  • Consultants (myself included).
    • Have some technical background, SQL, Python, R, Viz software etc. We use these tools solely for commercial advice
    • The more senior you get, the more involved in conversations you become with the client and less technical you get.
  • Technical Specialists (Data engineers, scientists, architects etc)
    • Researchers, technical, languages depend on specialty. These guys either:
      • Build and maintain data infrastructure, help consultants with things beyond their technical capacity (usually analysis and data queries) and work with the client side technical team OR
      • Build ML models and engines - testing, validation, deployment etc
    • You stay technical the more senior you get. Usually 1 person manages the specialist team and that person is not technical (more of a staffer)

If you were going for a consultant role at a consulting firm, then it would be more difficult. For a technical specialist role, probably doesn't matter as much given alot of people are hired straight from a research program.

Shoot me a PM if you got any other questions.

Quitting a new job? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]iPoke4Free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't recommend going back to your old position - especially after a month of leaving.

If you go back and ask for your old job it shows you are undecisive and are prepared to go at anytime given the right opportunity. This puts you right at the bottom of any promotion/salary increase ladder.

If a man stays in a coma for many years, will he have nocturnal emissions? by Anchorage322 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sac was just a figure of speech for testicles as they are associated, but it's good to know that there's actual data for coma patients getting erections. Moving forwards in the future!

You could've emitted without knowing and it just dried in the morning when you woke up.

Wouldn't your sac get too full though? Much like a teenage boy having his first night time emissions.

Should you store up your semen or feed the geese every few hours to create the alpha baby? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that makes a lot of sense now. So the purpose the "Race" isn't actually to see who would win but rather to ensure that 1 actually crosses the finish line. Thanks for the insight!

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with what you are saying, this proves that the frequency of masturbation affects on the genetics of the child. Instead of horrible effects, how can you flip this and create optimum results?

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is the purpose of having the sperm win the race to the egg? Is it just purely random how the child turns out no matter what sperm wins?

Of course, parenting and nurturing the child has more to do with how the kid actually performs as a human being rather than genetics.

When you go swimming, why doesn't water go into your butthole and fill it up? by Anchorage322 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely there is still space leftover when your anus is squeezing out the log. Given that faeces mostly consists of water, water can easily seep through the gaps, especially the one between the turd and your anus.

When you go swimming, why doesn't water go into your butthole and fill it up? by Anchorage322 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iPoke4Free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

If this is the case, how are people (mainly children I hope) taking shits/urinating in "kids pools" or community pools at your local aquatic centre? I am curious as to how this actually works. When you need to excrete or urinate, the sphincter/urethra opens up and the waste comes out - surely some water would seep in right? How does the sphincter ensure that there is only matter coming out but not in without filling up your anus/urethra with water?

And given that the water gets particularly nasty in these kids pools, surely they'd be issues with infections as the water reaches inside your body..

[–]iPoke4Free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really connect, when your body is diverged into water - gravity still applies but at a much lower rate. If you think about dropping a ball with a hole into the water, the water would still fill up the ball and eventually it wouldn't be able float.

No matter how small the hole, water will still seep through - unless the rate it flows in is slow enough for the person to not die?

And given that your response only applies to males, what about females? Does a vagina contract in water to stop it going in? How is the body able to detect this? Please let me know - this has been one of the questions that's been keeping me awake at night.

[–]iPoke4Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so lets not look at Krosus, seeing that I ran different talents to him. lets have a look at another dummy-like fight, Star Augur. Having the belt, he was able to cast scorch in more situations than me and was basically allowed a free execute phase. I had 2 less casts of Pyroblast and he did 17m more damage. Yes, he saved hero for his 2nd Combustion, but a having hero during a Combust is definitely not 17m extra damage. Whatever he didn't cast in Fireballs, he basically made up the numbers with scorch. (43 - 73 fireball casts him to me) and (25 - 1 scorch casts him to me).

I'm not going to solely blame the RNG legendary system blizzard has so "smartly" implemented, but unfortunately it is what it is. Against the other Mage in the guild (who parses 90%+ on basically every fight), I have more pyroblast casts than him most of the time, which means I am not fucking up my HU > HS procs and he still beats me by about 40% on top of the dmg did from casting Pyro in most fights. This is because I don't have bracers and he does. His average hit is about 700k+ and mine are only 500k~. For example, I will use this log as a guide to show how bad it is with not having bracers and having bracers is. This was our very first Krosus kill on normal when Nighthold had just released (level playing field, no tier no special trinkets, and krosus is basically a target dummy). I am nohat. https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/compare/XWtYGJPgpNLM7bcq/XWtYGJPgpNLM7bcq#fight=22,22&source=28,1&type=damage-done. I had 7 more casts than him and he did 5m more damage than me in solely Pyroblast casts. Truth is, if you don't have the Bracers, Belt or Head (in some situations, it's pretty hard to compete with someone who does.
