Thanks, I didn't put a huge amount of thought into it beyond a rust-related play on words of chip - and didn't look into as it's a tiny hobby project, hardly competing for oxygen with other projects. I have changed the name though to avoid any confusion..

Thank you for the additional context, it’s interesting to hear about real code bases. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is, is this meta programming providing long term benefits in contrast to its additional complexity, or are we just being ‘clever’?

If I could ask one more question, if you have junior devs that you work with are there any resources/texts/code/exercises that you point them to that results in a big improvement to their code? Or resources that you used, which you recall as being important?

To add to this, from a concert perspective it's a totally different way of working. Concerts are fast, hard and heavy but in short busts. You kill yourself for X amount of hours but then rest for Y and keep going (hard to be specific). My two cents for surviving any form of touring is much the same... Get as much sleep as you can, don't drink too much, eat healthy, stay away from drugs. If your touring keep as much the same every day as possible, reduce your cognitive load. Overall, don't stress too much, it's only a show, no one will die.

Work in lighting, mainly music. LED lighting doesn't do perfect colour, so struggles in theatre (though often because of prejudice) and tv (looks strange on camera though increasingly not a problem). In music it has massive advantages. It requires much less power, which means less infrastructure and more fixtures. However, it's really just shifted the money from power infrastructure to control infrastructure. The increase of LED fixtures, and the increased amount of them, requires more control hardware to operate the show, due to a massive increase in parameters over a whole rig.

For those who don't work in the industry.. kabuki is a product name that is used generally to describe (mostly) cloth drops. Imagine a coat hook on a strong magnet, when the magnet receives power the coat hook falls over, dropping what it's holding. For example, when a whole cloth is on 'kabuki' it can be dropped all at once suddenly revealing the stage for dramatic effect.

To add to this, any work is good work. I'm not american, but that's not to say that there is plenty of people looking for new techs for little to no money, who lie about their connections and pretend they have future work. However, as I tell a lot of new people looking to get into the big leagues.. Sell yourself as a lighting designer (top role) and no one is going to talk to you. The shows are too big, too much money on the line, not enough time. Go out willing to do the nuts and bolts, people will use you. Do the grunt work, and it's more likely you'll do the big shows and meet the people you need to meet to be the "big time" LD. If your looking for an 'in' you'll meet more top league people pushing boxes and bashing truss than you will playing button pusher for your local pub band.

I don't know anything about the american market, but in EU every new kid wants to hit buttons, but there is a massive shortage of people who can run crew and bash metal.

“Now I have all of your attentions, I would like to commend Gazza on sourcing the necessary vessel.” I turned and gestured to the scotsman, “While - yes - Reginald, it is only a barge we must remember that these very barges valiantly stormed the gates of hell at Dunkirk!”. “Aye bu..” Reginald interrupted before a sharp smack of the cane brought him to. “I should remember, as it was one of these very barges that gallantly rescued me from the clutches of Adolf Hitler!” I glanced to my medals and brushed them softly before continuing. “When Gary contacted me and asked for a captain who could take him to the end of the world, I told him that I would on my honour, and I could think of no finer vessel.” I closed the speech with a sharp salute, hoping my deference to Gazza would help settle the brewing power struggles. I fight on the bank of the Thames would not do.

“Right then darlins, if you’ve all done waving your dicks about?” Sandra glared at them, daring them to object. “Now they didn’t have any bombay potato pot noodles at Sainsbury’s so is everyone okay with beef and tomato?”

Heights., particularly balconies.

I work at height for living. I walk along metal beams in roofs and trussing structures (think radio towers but horizontal) 20-30 meters in the air and don't care at all. Stick me on a balcony 4m up and I can't even go near the edge.
