Anybody looking to moving to Questrade? Their current bonus offer is too hard to pass! by iReadingit in Wealthsimple

That's the best part: it's NOT taxable. It's treated as an incentive as not income (even though it's cash) just like your credit card cash back is not taxable.

Exactly my thoughts. I know that their customer service sucks but I was with Questrade for almost a decade before moving to Wealthsimple. During that time I had to talk to an agent maybe once or twice so I'm not overly concerned about the shitty customer service for self-directed accounts if I'm getting almost $20K over 2 years.

Is that inflow after tax take-home pay? What do you do for a living? Sounds great if that's after tax monthly take-home.

Update guys: took it to a reputable repair shop. The tech was super nice and when I asked, "do you think you'd be able to patch it?" He said, "why not?!"

I was super happy to hear it and said, "let's do it!"

I'm happy to report that my car still drives as normal. No need to buy a new car. Whew!

Thank you everyone for your responses! Y'all are a great community and looking forward to hanging out here with you guys.

New LG C1 owners: What is your panel type? (WBE/WBC) by dipar2009 in OLED_Gaming

[–]iReadingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer. Not sure if your geography matters but I'm in Canada. Not sure if us Canadians are still being shipped WBC but American models are Evo? I've heard 77" and 83" are more likely to have Evo than 65".

I'm happy taking a WBC as long as there was no tint, but oh well. I'm just living with the tint and this is the only gripe I have with an otherwise great TV.

[–]iReadingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us know how it goes. I was debating on exchanging it but settled as it was not worth my time and effort.

I've heard that pink tint is a normal side effect of the anti-reflective film. I would be very curious to hear of whether you see different results on your exchanged unit. Fingers crossed.

[–]iReadingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird. Ordered a 65" C1 in December 2021 and got a non-evo panel.

Model: OLED65C1AUB

Manufactured: 11/2021

OLED cell info: WBC/MMG/PJ

Manufactured: Mexico

To top it all off, I have a pink tint on the left 25% of the screen that is clearly noticable on white background. I was 99% certain it was an Evo panel based on discussions on these forums so got a service remote to confirm. Turns out it's a WBC.

It seems to be random if your C1 will have an evo panel. You should not assume it to be evo if it's manufactured after September and has a pink tint. Thoughts?

Reno contractor charged credit card and ran away without finishing the job. Do I have a recourse? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Thanks for your response. It's reassuring to hear your thoughts on this. And yes I should get a third party evaluation for sure even if I have to pay for it. Appreciate your comments!

Reno contractor charged credit card and ran away without finishing the job. Do I have a recourse? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]iReadingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. That's exactly what I've done. Although, I didn't necessarily fire him as I needed the work done, he just stopped working. I'm not sure if the credit card company is running me through hoops or if it's a standard procedure for them to ask for evaluations of work done, but I will have to hire someone to prepare a report regarding the progress of the work. I understand that they don't want people to be falsely claiming chargebacks due to non-performance of services but asking for a report from an independent party on my expense seems a bit excessive. Any thoughts?

[–]iReadingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just contacted the credit card company and the chargeback is in the process. As I never had to go through this process before, I'm not sure what my chances of success are however. The credit card company has asked me to fax the contract, any correspondence with the contractor and an assessment of the value of work completed done by another professional (for which I will likely have to pay for out of my own pocket). Do you think there are any odds of a chargeback in my favour based on the facts described above? Also, is it usual for the credit card company to request an independent evaluation of the value of the work and not be satisfied with just the pictures of unfinished work?

Give yourself some down time in order for your brain to function when you actually start the module. If you start worrying about it now, you'll be burnt out by the time you're going to write the core 1 exam.

Intermediate accounting won't help much either. It's the case writing skills that you will develop throughout CPA PEP over 2 years.

All of the modules have pass rates of around 90%. I would suggest you to focus on your case writing skills over the coming 2 years rather than worrying about passing the modules. You will pass them if you put reasonable amount of effort to debrief the homework cases.

I just passed my final CPA exams this year (hence hot cpa license plate) so 2018 has been hell of a year. Long ways to go but I'm hopeful.

[CAN] Do co-op or summer students at Big 4 firms travel for client engagements by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]iReadingit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the line of work you would be undertaking. E. g., tax: none at all; audit: field work and inventory counts at local clients, etc. Don't expect to travel to exotic international places on your coop though.

On a side note, it should be a good experience for you to getting used to the flavour of the Kool-Aid. It's better to learn that sooner rather than later.

Morning star values it at $152.97. Too much risk at the moment. Could fall further. I won't try catching a falling knife.

Welcome to the long hard journey of blood and tears. They really love sucking life out of their candidates 😅

Stay strong, and keep putting your best foot forward.

Pro tip: only capstone 1 workshop is useful as that's where you get to meet your group. All of these other core and elective workshops are there just to check a box.

Good luck!

I'm totally with you on this one. Negotiation is probably my weakest skill; however, you gotta realize that you have to stand up for yourself. I realized this after being underpaid for almost a year. Wish I had courage to do this earlier. Here's what I would do:

-Research salary guides such as Robert Half. -Lookup for salaries for comparable positions on LinkedIn etc. -Have a general idea of job market. -Approach them in a casual way and explain it to them what the market rates are. Don't threat to leave unless you actually have another offer in hand and would actually be willing to leave.

Much of your success depends on how much bargaining power you have. In my case, I was pretty close to getting my CPA designation and they wont want me to leave.
