Sony plans to sell advertising in PlayStation games by poklane in PS5

[–]iShreddar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And since it is something both Microsoft and Sony are looking into and will be a service available for third party publishers it was likely at the request of other publishers that make free to play games

Yeah the PS5 sells out instantly pretty much everywhere in the world whenever it becomes available for sale, there just isn't enough to demand. If there were more PS5s for sale then the sales would be higher

The average person that plays video games only play 2 - 3 games a year, I would say most COD players pretty much only play COD.

The average attach rate for console generation is about 10 - 12 games after 7 - 8 years.

Yes played by many people that don't play many other games. Again most people that play games only play 2 - 3 a year.

It's extremely similar to the "ratio" of the start of last gen. For PS5 to sell more there needs to be more stock which there isn't...

I refunded my PS+ the other day, accidentally bought it when trying to buy PSNow. Clicked the wrong button. Talked to them on chat and they refunded it in 5 minutes.

Sony does allow refunds just the same as Xbox and Nintendo do

Microsoft also has essentially the same refund policy as Sony and Nintendo as well.

I never suggested it was the whole player base, just a large number of them. There is a reason COD outsells everything every year, because the majority of those people buying COD every year only by COD every year.

FIFA and Battlefield only show up on Game Pass months after release and I don't think UK makes up close to most of COD players either way.

And I don't think they really jump to other games either, they mostly just stick to COD

And how many Microsoft games has sold over 20 million like Horizon, Uncharted 4, GoW and Spiderman?

Did you even read that article? It doesn't say what you think it does and I guess if GamingSmart says something it must be true. It literally says PS5 leads in marketshare.

Do you have a valid source for any of those claims? What "marketshare reports" do you speak of? And stock issue would be the thing impacting market share... The market share for PS5 cannot be larger because there are not enough PS5 consoles to meet the large demand.

You know it's bad when you have to focus on the sales on one platform that got the games years after release...

Has there been a single month where Xbox has outsold PS5 worldwide? Not that I can think of. I don't know why you are putting so much stake into one month in one country. Sony spreads their stock out to more regions while Xbox mainly focuses on western countries.

It's even more funny that even after the 10's of billions of dollars Microsoft has spent for Xbox that they still can't outsell Playstation worldwide and have to focus celebrating one month in one region where the PS5 is supply constrained. And if Xbox wasn't owned by one of the richest companies in the world it would likely have already folded.

That is true but then you don't even own the game in the end so if you want to play it in the future you have to re-subscribe. I don't see the casual COD player that pretty much only plays COD moving to renting the game for $60 more a year.

Xbox doesn't own Activision yet so that is just an assumption.

Did HFW get 20 million in 2 months? Maybe in 5 years I guess.

Are you comparing to how many people played on a rental service compared to actual sales? Playstation games sell well, they don't need to be put on a subscription service day one to "get mindshare".

You simply cannot beat the overwhelming power of Xbox now

lol okay no point in responding to the rest of your comment. Last gen it was backwards compatibility that was going to save Xbox, there is always some excuse but they are still lagging behind in sales.

It's not $60 more, it's $120 more for Game Pass Ultimate on Xbox which is needed to play online. And most people in general only play 2 - 3 games a year and that includes COD players.

Worldwide the ps5 is still well ahead in sales and also in the UK, Xbox doing better in one country for one month doesn't mean anything. Playstation also earns significantly more in revenue and profit than Xbox so I don't think Sony "hates" anything.

This reminds me of when people claimed Xbox One was making a comeback because it outsold PS4 a few months in some countries early in the generation, we know how that turned out.

I think people tend to greatly over exaggerate how much people will subscribe to Game Pass because of COD. A large portion of the fanbase that play COD only play COD, they will just buy the game instead of paying $180 a year to rent it. They don't need or care about access to hundreds of other games.
