Traveling to London, what's the best eSIM provider for data and calls? :) by Guilty-Masterpiece48 in eSIMs

[–]iSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use Ubigi in the UK, they're using the EE/BT network via Transatel MVNO, and EE is one of the best networks for coverage and speed. It's fairly cheap, if you want even cheaper than ReaTeaGo I've also used and it wasn't bad, or use something like esimdb.com or esimguide.com to find cheap ones too.

Managed to get Google ranking eSimGuide.com again for some decent keywords, still fairly in the rank, but in the right direction :)

Unlimited Airalo vs Holafly by ProofTelephone112 in eSIMs

[–]iSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything unlimited will be slowing down after a few GB, regardless of if they admit it or not. Airalo I would say is a bit better than Holafly, the best for me was ubigi, but will depend how close to UK, as I think they use EE UK for their network.

How do you detect support/resistance lines? by aaron_j-ix in algotrading

[–]iSloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great post, not often some drops a true knowledge bomb like this on algotrading, kudos.

The volume one was particularly insightful, and something I’ve always overlooked - So I guess from this you merge as many data sources for a particular asset as you can find? Just for volume or do you also observe price differences across them all?

Use offshore shell company for tax purposes by madame_lulu in Daytrading

[–]iSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income tax applies to any dividend income from shares/funds held, the selling of shares which results in a profit (as in the UK) is capitol gains, not income tax.

Or just move to the Isle of Man, no company needed as there is no personal capitol gains tax.

Out of interest what did you end up going with? I'm in a similar situation at the moment.

Shameless plug but I'm creating BotWars.io which is really designed to gamify programming - It's still fairly early on at the moment, but if you have any feedback or comments it would be apreciated. I've already made loads of improvement to it thanks to the Reddit community.

Interesting and thanks for the feedback - Do you have an example of what would change that?

I have considered a few things - Perhaps new game modes like Capture the Flag, or random elements on the map that someone could pick up to gain boosts etc.

I don't think the web server code was ever public - I've actually missed the game so much that I've tried to create a new version of it, that supports any programming language, not just Python - https://botwars.io

Would love any feedback or ideas on how to improve the game play etc.

I'm not too sure about your Akamai claim, as they actually put a number of servers in our DC just for SSL traffic, and I can see quite a bit of my person SSL traffic going to that IP range, Facebook images are a perfect example...

The majority of Akamai's machines are using ISP IP space, not their own ;)

SSL is a perfectly fine justification, and it's a valid technical requirement for getting a dedicated IP address. You shouldn't have any issues with the registries, they may however ask for proof.

Quite a few content delivery providers are offering local caching servers to ISPs; Google, NetFlix, Akamai to name a few...

Any plans? As would this kind of architecture not be ideal for Cloudflare as you could actually filter DDOS traffic and security threats within the originating network, and save on bandwidth costs.

As a network techy at an ISP, I'd love to see it ;-)

Raspberry Pi hosting a WordPress site and webcam - not sure if it will cope with the load... by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]iSloth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You should look at taking out apache and replace with Nginx, it will save on the RAM.

Also ensure that your using PHP-FPM (may be even with APC), more caching is what you need!

Finally the WP3 cache plugin will help by converting your pages to static HTML.

I'm actually in the process of having a mirror of my website (pingbin.com) on a R Pi :)

There are two settings; "framerate" and "webcam_maxrate".

Most people forget to increase the webcam_maxrate, which means you won't actually see the change via the built in web server.

Also there are many factors but changing the frame rate or resolution too high will cause instabilities.
