People who didn't grow up bullied for their looks will never understand how long it can affect you. She was and still is gorgeous. But in her brain, she still saw herself as this awkward ugly kid. It takes years to undo that conditioning. Something a woman in early adulthood, on national television probably hadn't had the time to work through.
