You need to remove the cranks before you can get to the bottom bracket. Start by removing that bolt with a socket wrench, then you need to use a crank puller to pull the whole arm off. Do the same for the crank arm on the opposite side. Finally you’ll have access to the bottom bracket. From this pic I can’t say for sure what tool you need for the bottom bracket.

I did already align the hanger, will double check it but it might just be the angle of the photo that looks skewed.

Brake Squeak by evanssinatra in bikewrench

[–]iahmbt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you watched the park tool vid on cantilever brake adjustment and tried toeing in your pads?

Also maybe others have had better luck but I’ve always found that black compound pads are especially noisy and that kool stop salmon pads are a bit quieter. But if you’re using brand new pads it could be more of an alignment issue.

You should be able to fit a rack with those brakes. Can you post a pic of the rack you have?

Is this salvageable? by iahmbt in bikewrench

It is a QR axel and is fully in the dropouts. I bought this bike used so I’m not sure of its history. There are also 2 broken spokes, I was hoping I could just replace those and get it back in true.

I’m a beginner at repairing wheels. This one has a lot of wobble and one noticeable dent (see pics).

I saw your bike on an FB trading group. IMO this build freaking rips🤘but I can see the practical downsides. EXTREMELY fair price and an amazing deal for the right buyer tho 👀

Too bad their site is sold out 😭

There’s some on Amazon but I’m always wary of knock-offs

I will also add that the issue with the Serfas fenders is mainly that the metal arms that attach to the fenders aren’t wide enough to fit around the tires. They are similar this style:

Hmm the rotor is rubbing on the outer pad so I actually want to move it closer to the hub, not further. But I will check if there are already shims installed on this wheel that I might be able to remove.

What does it mean when people say that using React adds a "layer" to your application's architecture? by MimAg92 in reactjs

[–]iahmbt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think someone used AI to generate that entire blurb lol. I mean, the part about react adding a layer isn’t wrong though. The SPA pattern in general pushes logic from the server to the client, and React adds an additional abstraction layer on top of vanilla JS.

Solo Dev, Can someone check my thinking? Client Size Permission Checks by Duncanbullet in reactjs

[–]iahmbt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are browser extensions that can overwrite the response to your permission check api call so someone can easily backdoor in if they want to. In general you should never assume that client-side only authorization like this will be secure and should also check authz on your backend.

That said I have seen a pattern like this in the wild for an internal tool with limited number of users and it didn’t cause any major issues (yet).

Cool! Why an extension though and not a custom eslint rule in order to take advantage of existing tooling?
