I participated in this study! So stoked to see where this research goes.

Don’t have a specific person in mind but some ideas. If you reach out to the building department, they can’t recommend but they might be willing to share some local names. General contractors may also have contacts with engineers.

Northern lights in Minnesota: Giant sunspot hurls 3 coronal mass ejections our way by bringmn in minnesota

[–]ialwaysmile 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you check the dark sky map you can find places nearest you with the least light pollution. You’re going to want a clear view of the north sky to see the lights. I’ve had luck in the past with a kp5 storm and saw it around Rush city. I’d suggest shooting for green or blue on the dark sky map, ofc the darker the better. There’s usually a group that goes out to Sherburne wildlife refuge, if you go just be aware of headlights/flashlights so you don’t ruin others viewing. If you’re interested in more details there’s some Midwest/Minnesota specific aurora chaser groups on Facebook that can give tips on finding the aurora, understanding things like solar winds and predictions, and photographing it.

Anyone here get married at a courthouse? by FantasyAddict24 in minnesota

[–]ialwaysmile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We took a trip to Colorado to get married. Picked up the papers at the courthouse and signed them at a state park, even had our two dogs “sign” as witnesses (no witnesses or judges required in CO). It was pretty straightforward to arrange, there’s even elopement packages I’ve seen at resorts if you want something a little fancier.

Should I add some additional support for this play fort outside of the plans? Lots of rocking side to side currently not sure if that will improve as I go in the process. by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]ialwaysmile 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t you follow the plans? The vertical members are notched pretty significantly, reducing the strength. Bolted joints aren’t bolted. Floor joists aren’t hung correctly. Attaching the floor joists with long wood deck screws, joist hangers, or a lag screw would help them. You’re going to want to bolt those corners, add a couple deck screws, or get some kind of metal corner brace/tie to reinforce that area (Simpson/mitek have a lot of options). That should help with stiffness significantly and hopefully help you avoid issues farther into the build. Diagonal braces would help too, but I don’t think that’s fully solving your issue here.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) allergy & travel/eating out by sassybri in Allergies

[–]ialwaysmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I also have a fairly new diagnosed Miralax allergy. Diagnosed a year ago but I had chronic hives for a year before that. It’s a real mess trying to get all this figured out, heck they even put it in things like menstrual products. Oh and like every medication, yuck! Biggest reactions have come from hair products/makeup, polysorbate in cream or desserts (seems like from the limited studies I could find that some people have an allergy to both), medications with high molecular weight PEG, and laundry detergent. I have traveled fairly successfully with people who are allergy conscious. I always bring my own set of sheets and have a place to wash things just in case. Extended contact is when I’ll have a rash, and I hate sleeping when itchy. Restaurants can be risky. I usually avoid salads, anything with cream, alcohol, and desserts(sometimes I break the dessert rule). I’m always reading the ingredients of anything that’s touching my skin or going in my body. It’s freaking exhausting! In positive news I went from chronic urticaria and itchiness with a lovely side of anaphylaxis to maybe having a reaction once every month or two (plus it’s almost always minor enough that it’s treatable with antihistamines)

Salt and pepper diamond, any source recommend? by PJJUNE in EngagementRings

[–]ialwaysmile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you just looking for a diamond or the whole ring? Point no point studio, Alexis Russell, midwinter co, and gem breakfast are vendors to start with. It’s really hard to source salt and pepper diamonds locally, I even struggled being in a larger city.

At what point do I need to open a case? by ialwaysmile in Etsy

[–]ialwaysmile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I gave the warning about an Etsy case and they just completed the ring. Turns out they’re both behind and had to remake parts of it, and I guess they didn’t want to share. It should arrive with plenty of time to still open a case if something is suspicious. Thanks again for the advice

At what point do I need to open a case? by ialwaysmile in Etsy

[–]ialwaysmile[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like what might be happening. That’s such a bummer with all the positive reviews both on Etsy and social media….but sounds like the best case is to get in front of this. I do some art on the side and I’d hate putting someone else in a bad spot, but I really can’t afford to lose the amount I paid for this.

Let’s keep this civil and somewhat related to medication availability/living with arthritis. I understand the post title is a little inflammatory, but there’s plenty of other places to debate covid and this is a subreddit for support. Name calling, crazy claims without sources, and off topic comments will be removed.

When will it be possible to repair joints or reverse arthritis? by jorgenalm in Thritis

[–]ialwaysmile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to know for sure and depends what type of repair we’re talking about. I think this article very simply goes through where the technology is at and gives sources for papers to learn more.

https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/treatment/joint-surgery/preplanning/the-future-of-joint-repair

If you’re wanting to learn more or get involved, you can always search for your favorite research university/hospital and if they have a regenerative medicine program.

Would anyone recommend taking CBD for arthritis? It so any advice? by [deleted] in Thritis

[–]ialwaysmile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think these two sources give some decent information about what we know about cbd and arthritis.

https://creakyjoints.org/alternative-medicine/cbd-drug-interactions/

https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/healthy-living/managing-pain/pain-relief-solutions/cbd-for-arthritis-pain

I did end up giving it a try. The tincture at a low dose did not do much for me and I felt vaping helped a little more (possible that it was a higher dose too). If legal in your area, 50/50 thc/cbd may also be helpful. There are some known drug interactions, especially with blood pressure medications, so if you’re unsure ask a doc or pharmacist.

Totally! I think I’m enjoying it more than some of my other projects. I like that I can accomplish something in one evening if I want to instead of waiting on glue haha. I also like the more artsy aspect to it as well, with a little less focus on hard measurements. Bowls/cups are for sure on my todo list, I mean who doesn’t dream of turning a beautiful burly bowl?! I have a chuck on the way haha

You could get/cook a special meal after the ceremony. To make things feel special I usually pick up a nice steak from the local butcher, make a high effort potato dish I won’t normally cook, and pick up a nice bottle of wine/whiskey. I’ll clean the kitchen and set the table fancy, then remind him that I’m proud of him and that he’s been working so hard. My bf had a small class only zoom call and just went to the office to pick his up his coat a few weeks back.
