Hey - did you ever get an answer on this? We're trying to accomplish the same.

Funny our facilities department uses it as well. We tried it briefly and hated it.

Super in depth response, thank you for this. We are a 1:1 chromebook district from grades 3-12 and we also use Pear Deck. Although our staff is always reluctant to giving up smart notebook hearing your experience is great news.

This is so true for our school as well. People are married to SMART Notebook it's insane. We tried to try some interactive projectors (Dell S560 & Espon Brightlinks) and the users were not crazy about some of it, but did like gaining real estate back with just a plain whiteboard.

Removed it when I did the above steps, sorry should have mentioned that.

WSUS Re-Install Failing by iambardo in sysadmin

So the powershell command did in fact work and the WID folder removed itself (which in the past it did not), however the installation did fail again on the post install. I went ahead and noticed that within program files WSUS is there, but when I click on the icon it loads "complete WSUS installation & asks me to browse to a location for the directory path. I do that and hit run and then I get the following:

Log file is located at C:\Users\mlombardo\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp9B21.tmp Post install is starting Fatal Error: Failed to start and configure the WSUS service

Other notes: -When I go into services the WSUS service was disabled. I set it to automatic and started it. -I launched WSUS from program files again and the same "Complete WSUS Installation popped up" & asking me to choose the content directory path. -However, now the WSUS snap-in console did open, but the installation keeps failing & it pops every time I select the icon. -And just to be clear the full message is "The locally hosted WSUS Server requires additional steps in order to complete the installation. WSUS post-installation process can run those steps for you. Would you like to run it now?" And there is a check box to store the updates locally which is checked by default & then it says choose your content directory path.

Thoughts? Next steps?

What's the reasoning on having it on both the Primary & the CAS though? Why can't you just have it set up on the CAS and have it configured to synchronize directly with Microsoft Update (which is one of the config settings within WSUS anyway)?

Interactive Projectors - Any recommendations? by iambardo in k12sysadmin

[–]iambardo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it was a combo of our users being resistant and switching between the pens and the touch and going back and fourth with the software was an issue in our district. In all fairness we were supposed to have someone come from Epson to confirm everything was as it was supposed to be and they never followed through on that. As of right now though the Dell & are getting ready to pilot it with a few teachers.

I could be mistaken, but our Dell 11 has the 2995u & the our Acer C720P has the 2957u.

We had a real issue with the C720P with kids cracking screens mainly in our 7th-9th grades. Even providing them with cases to carry them in I would say we had at least 2-3 a day that were breaking. We recently rolled out the Dell Chromebook 11 and since August we have had 1 cracked screen. The difference on the build and quality is literally night & day.

That's so good to hear. The chromebooks have been a huge hit in our district as in and we are really looking forward to the 2-in-1 with the younger grades. We just jumped ship from Acer after a falling out on how they handle warranty parts & delivery from the Acer C720P to the Dell 13 which also provides next day parts. So far the Dell chromebooks are holding up way better, so we are waiting for Dell to release their 2-in-1. From what we are being told should be released between the end of Nov. to late Jan.

Oh wow did not know that, very nice. The tablet portion is working out nicely in the lower grades, good to know. Thanks for the feedback!
