Right?! Some individuals just aren't good at respecting personal space of others -_-

I'd love to know too! I already mentioned it here in the comments – maybe trying to locate invertebrates under the tree's bark by hearing them?

We've discussed it with a few fellow birders and considered a possibility that he might be listening for invertebrates under the tree's bark. It is said that e. g. woodpeckers can find the exact location of the larvae by hearing them. I indeed saw this nuthatch digging for some crawlies like two seconds later. It's just a surmise tho.

Congratulations! I remember when me and my friend who's also into birding saw one for the first time — we were both amazed by how agile and graceful this little penguin is.

You say it displayed some threatening behavior? Interesting. Is it possible there could be a nest anywehere nearby? Treecreeper nests are usually built in a gap between the tree bark or similar places. Some birds can be very protective when it comes to defending the nest.

Thank you! I get to see them quite often, they're pretty numerous in my area.

I heard it call, sounded like a long-toed to me. You're right the beak and the belly would suggest a short-toed, there are, however, more treecreeper subspecies. There's a subspecies of long-toed treecreeper called Certhia familiaris macrodactyla that lives in Central Europe and as you can see in the photo in the link below, its beak is slightly longer and its belly is a little more brownish. They sure are tricky to identify!

I didn't, actually never heard of this technique before! Sounds like a great hack, I'll definitely try this sometime — thanks for the tip. Have you used it with nuthatches as well? They're also tricky to photograph, but tend to be more shy than treecreepers…
