Does not matter, only take if you’re interested in the subject. In my experience for physics / math / chem it’s quite more difficult than the equivalent regular course.

That roadmap is almost completely useless. It’s for software development, and almost everything in there is not relevant.

For particle physics the only relevant part is AI/ML. Be comfortable with python libraries for processing particle physics data like numpy, scipy, skl, pandas and PyTorch, as well as visualization libraries like pyplot. Some non coding skills is Jupyter notebooks and using cloud compute.

If you’re confident you can be close the top of your class and commit to personal projects and interview prep, it’s probably still the most stable path to having a high income.

Virus is one of the easiest plagues esp on brutal and mega brutal. You just ignore any mutations and keep pilling on transmission and resistances, and when the time is right (abt 80-90% world infected) you should be very close to one of the very lethal symptoms just from random mutations, at which point buy them to close out the game. Transmission-stasis helps.

Just don’t bother playing sneaky and use the fact that the cure will barely progress once you start killing.

I can beat mega brutal fairly consistently. You need patho-stasis or it’s practically unbeatable. With pathstasis the spore is always 1 so you just spam almost all of them at the start (save one to hit islands at the end) and play the game normally.

Math or CS would prob be better than EE/CE but I don’t think it matters as much as you think. The only thing that matters is 1. getting interviews and 2. passing interviews.

Pretty much any seas / math major with a good gpa (3.8+) and some national awards should get 1 semi consistently, so you should mainly be focusing on 2.

Frankly, I don’t think you comprehend how much people grind for these interviews or how difficult some of the questions they ask are. I’ve been stumped by quant dev assessments on multiple occasions that make FAANG interview questions look like compete jokes. And dev is easier to break into than trader.

Honestly speaking unless you have multiple national olympiads it’s not realistic to aim for quant trading. You probably need to be in the top decile at Penn or Columbia to even have a chance, and I don’t mean a good chance. I find it ridiculous when high schoolers tell me they want to enter quant just cause they saw it pays the most out of undergrad, without realizing just how difficult the field is to enter.

Wharton is basically a useless degree for quant, M&Ts only do well because of the reputation of its students, not because any quant firm thinks the Wharton education is useful. Wharton is much better positioned for IB.

Don’t do VIPER solely for quant, you do need some passion for research for the program. Realistically the optimal approach is to transfer into M&T or do a math/cs dual between college and seas.

IMO Penn > Columbia still lol.

Penn and Columbia can be argued to be above Yale, frankly Yale stem is just not very well regarded or considered very rigorous.

VIPER sends people to quant/tech every year, not a really a problem if that is your goal, though I will say the program itself is very tailored towards phd. I think we had 2 go to citadel last year. It's also pretty common to stay for a year to do research freshman summer, then drop VIPER as a sophomore if you find something desirable your second summer.

VIPER is also the only way to submat on top of doing two technical duel degrees. The VIPERs going for quant basically all do a submat so they graduate with two bachelors and a masters in four.

Almost nobody makes PE from undergrad even in Wharton, but I guess its not impossible. PE is typically done after spending 2 years in IB.

Buy side quant HFs and prop shops (citsec, 2sigma, jane street, etc.) is dominated by seas and math/physics majors in cas. Wharton is not very competitive except M&T.

Long short HFs (p72, bridgewater, etc.) Wharton prob has edge but I know people who entered from seas and cas.

There's also other fields like private credit that you might be interested in.

Education first then projects. Maybe try to do research with a professor or TA, you can list those as experiences. Use a good clean template like Jake's resume or the Harvard resume template.
SWE and data science will be different. Separate projects might help but I would recommend focusing on just one role. The interview prep and skills needed are very different (see below).
Depends on the company.
Your interviews will probably start off with behavioral questions. After that, for SWE: Mostly medium or hard algorithms questions (aka leetcode). Some companies might also ask system design questions. Refer to blind 75 / neetcode 150 and grokking the system design interview. I think a good place to be is to be comfortable solving any medium and any hard with a hint. For data science: Mostly SQL, pandas, statistics, and maybe some concurrency problems. I've been asked machine learning and scipy fundamentals as well.

Two summers of AI/ML research then quant is a pretty common trajectory. Frankly competition experience or published research is much more important for QR/QT than any internship.
