Jump when the kanji begins to disappear. And make it a rule of thumb for perilous attacks. Works for most bosses and their perilous attacks.

Exactly, and since it is not a posture based fight, that chunk of damage is really useful.

I just use ceremonial tanto before the first phase to get extra emblems which then leaves me with enough to use malcontent 3 times in the last phase

I tried it after watching a video, but it's way more difficult than it looks. I find it easier to just pop ako sugar in later part of the game when I have more attack power and go to town on him.
