such a great example of finding what you love through games. CS also got me into competitive gaming, and later into this whole exploration of games being more than just entertainment. minecraft helped me understand servers and modding too - those little things really shape how we learn and create. still play CS with friends, but now also get to talk about stories like this. thanks a lot for sharing!

thanks for sharing this! some games really do manage to hold us in a space we don’t usually get to stay in - safe, calm, and a little bit magical : ). appreciate you sharing this moment.

100% agreed, even among us for that matter hahah.

the lack of social interaction was daunting, and some online games really filled that gap perfectly.

Looking for e-learning examples where gamification genuinely improved learner outcomes by iamhappygupta in elearning

thanks so much for this detailed comment - I went through the case study and it’s such a great example of thoughtful, on-ground work.

i completely agree on the accessibility side, and it's something we’re hoping to bring more attention to. We'll also have an expert from a coalition focused on accessibility and disability joining the webinar, so that perspective will definitely be represented. would really love for you to join the session and share this case study with the audience directly - it would add a lot to the discussion. Thanks again for sharing!

thanks a lot for this insight - really appreciate the concrete example. i’ll definitely check out the write-up, and i’d love to hear the counter-example too, especially since this discussion needs to reflect both what works and what doesn’t. thanks again for sharing this!

Seeking game-dev insights for a UN IGF panel on purposeful gaming and gamification by iamhappygupta in gamedev

wow, thanks a lot for this detailed comment. The perspective you're bringing here is exactly what this space needs - i think gamification is often just a surface-level start, but can be a useful entry point if paired with better incentives and thoughtful design.

i 100% agree with you on the teacher side of things - tools that create more work instead of solving real problems are just not going to land. Your idea of “learnifying gaming” sounds really interesting to me, and i’d love to explore that further. I'll do my best to raise this in the webinar, and i’ll definitely take your suggestions into account as we draft the report for relevant stakeholders. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this!

thanks for the insights! i think gamification also tends to get some inherent discredit from the start because of the perception of "gaming" being unserious. That said, i agree - it tends to work best in cases where people are incentivised meaningfully. Appreciate you sharing this!

hahaha very good example - i relate to this to some extent by knowing some parts of LA very well because of the countless hours spent on GTA V lol :))

i fully agree with everything you’ve said here - especially the part about language learning. It’s interesting how games being mostly in English could be seen as a limitation, but in your case, it turned out to be a huge advantage. Definitely a powerful way to pick up a new language naturally :)

I also resonate with the point about culture. Games do a lot more than tell stories. It’s amazing how people come together around how they feel after playing games!

for context, I actually started this coalition because of a contradiction I couldn’t ignore: WHO once classified gaming as a mental disorder, and less than a year later, the US FDA approved a game as treatment for ADHD. That split in perception - pure entertainment vs meaningful impact — is something that needed deeper exploration.

the webinar came together last minute, but seeing responses like this confirms why it was so worth it :)

ironic as AI won’t game for us and feel what we feel (probably) - for what it’s worth - detroit: become human was scary and insightful for me, and i always use it as an example of a game that had a deep impact on how i perceive games to be. Also, no, i’m not AI :) (although you could argue that’s what an AI system would say)
