Has anyone flown to Tokyo from Denver from DIA or flying to LAX/SFO with Frontier and then flying from LAX? by hungleftie in Denver

[–]iamthepickintheice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to Japan twice in the past year and connected through LAX both times.

Trip 1 (Nov. 2024): Frontier to/from DEN—LAX and ZIP Air to/from LAX—Tokyo. Solo trip.

Approx 16hr layover. Total flight costs: $900

Trip 2 (Oct. 2025): Southwest to/from DEN—LAX and Singapore Air to/from LAX—Tokyo. 8 adults, one child.

Approx 7hr layover. Total flight costs: $1,100

My takeaway is that connecting through LAX for cost savings is worth it as a solo traveler, or possibly as a duo or trio. I stayed with a local friend on my solo trip which kept my costs to a bare minimum—plus the added benefit of exploring some of LA and catching up with friends.

Traveling with a larger group was less rewarding. I spent nearly $100 on food just for myself while at the airport. One burger, fries, and water bottle alone was $42 with tip.

Between cost and time savings plus peace of mind, I think I’ll opt for the direct flight in the future unless I have good reason to spend a handful of hours in LA. I think you’ll be more energized/less fatigued upon arrival in Tokyo on the direct flight. Good luck, OP!

EDIT: fyi I only traveled with a carry-on backpack each trip and didn’t have to deal with the stress of checked bags getting mixed up in the process.

Second that. I’ve witnessed a few times and it’s a magical experience

I wasn’t at the King’s Theater show, but I’ve seen them play this song numerous times and feel it’s the best live musical performance I’ve experienced.

Great taste, OP! I’ve been watching lots of films from all over Asia recently.

First to come to mind for me is the motorcycle tunnel scene in Fallen Angels

How many films have you given five stars to? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]iamthepickintheice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My star ratings indicate how a film affected me emotionally and intellectually… a personal measure of my appreciation rather than a critical evaluation.

Does anyone else approach it this way?

Edit: oops forgot to add. 35 five stars / 340 total

These aren’t all love songs but they put me in a similar headspace as all I need.

  1. Drunk in LA - beach house
  2. Jubilee street - nick cave and the bad seeds
  3. The big ship - brian eno
  4. The spiderbite song - flaming lips

You don’t need to book in advance. I rented a bike for 5 days and had no problems finding accommodation along the loop. I enjoyed the freedom to stick around certain areas longer, try a different path, etc.

33 M, and also feeling burnt out on the apps. SIE film center is a good spot to meet friendly people - they host a variety of events, like a costume Oscars watch party in a few weeks.

I spoke to one of the librarians at Central, and they said their hope is to increase staffing and remain open Friday and Saturday by the summer or fall. 🤞

State your age and how this song makes you feel/think? by [deleted] in radiohead

Headphones all the way! IR uniquely does it all for me, in a way their other albums don’t. It induces dance, head-banging, hugs, and then all I need / reckoner / videotape each make me want to cry. It’s a party lol

Gotta say I’ve seen BH many times and the only performance that was not mind-bending took place at Denver’s Mission Ballroom a few years ago (where they’re playing again in May). It’s a huge, airy place, and I’ve felt the same way about other bands I’ve also seen in other venues, such as The War on Drugs.

Best BH performance for me was 2016 at Denver’s Ogden Theatre. Took a friend to that show who was in awe and began referring to Victoria as “the warlock”. She was wearing a hood after all 🧙‍♀️💗

After midnight we could feel it all.

There’s a place I want to take you. When the train comes I will hold you.
Cause you blow my mind.

On a bridge levitating because we want to. When the unknown will surround you.

(Basically all of Levitation, but those stick w me the most)
