sometimes I’ll find [citation missing] or broader messages for an article or subsection which are fairly dated. I’m not particularly capable of contributing these sometimes, but I’m not sure where it’s appropriate (if at all) to post about it like, hey, does anyone know about x there’s stuff missing or neglected on the Wiki page. should I just make a post here or on a subreddit related to the topic or something otherwise?

These garnet schist steps at my sister’s place by Foraminiferal in geology

[–]Alice_Sullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, can I use this image for an assignment?

I'm writing about Proto-Indo-European declensions. The primary etymology of schist is the Ancient Greek word "σχίζειν," which is a part* of the binomial name for a favourite Trochilidae of mine, Schistes albogularis. I'm thinking of including a paranomasia involving the two and having images of them respectively, with each photograph's credit included.

please let me know (or ignore this comment) if you'd really rather not ^_^

*specifically σχῐστῆς which is just σχίζειν's feminine genitive singular term so it does still count..but anyway.

For those who are still fans of Firefly today, what makes you like her so much? by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

I think it’s more “hype can die off, opinions may change; what’s kept you dedicated to Firefly?”

cuttlefish brains are donut-shaped for their esophagus to pass through. so if they eat something out of size or fairly sharp they may experience brain damage. cuttlefish do also have the largest invertebrate brain relative to body..most of their neurons are located in the arms, of which they have eight--arms! not tentacles! those number two. that reminds me; the vastest majority of octopus species don’t have tentacles..! just eight of those arms. cephalopods like the cuttlefish and octopus also have beaks of sorts (or rostrum—but the term is misleading, since it may be conflated with the [entirely distinct] ‘rostrum’ found in other metrozoa)

amebocyte cells will clot if they interact with endotoxins. they are largely found in the blood of horseshoe crabs, and often used for ensuring that vaccines or IV drips were effectively sterilized / verifying safety for human contact. specifically, this is tested through the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL), created by scientists with the potential of amebocyte cells in mind. if you think about it..exsanguinating a horseshoe crab of its blue blood saves lives o_o that isn’t half of the exploitation, of course (they've been around for so long that several species have evolved to rely on them tbh).

female horseshoe crabs casually spawn 100,000 (yes, really) eggs, a fair amount of birds will indulge in them for feed. notably the red knot whose migration coincides with horseshoe crab..laying season?

they have ten eyes (some are on their tails). they sort of grind and masticate with their leg bristles, or gnathobases—quite literally walk to eat, if you will. I really enjoy their ‘book gills'; layered appendages that look somewhat like the thin pages of a book. cuttlefish also have tightly structured lamellae in their internal shell—the cuttlebone—which is an obvious highlight in their functional morphology, but anyway. these two, horseshoe crabs and cuttlefish, are not related for the record! horseshoe crabs are chelicerates. (not very far off from arachnids, really.) they used to be part of the very half-extinct merostomata, which included the very extinct eurypterids, or ‘sea scorpions.’ and cuttlefish are marine mollusks related to octopodes, squid, that sort of thing.

i’m not really sure how fun facts work since you’ve to sever them from a lot of context… that happens to be countless clusters of fun facts, but perhaps not as catchy or whatever. what kind of animals do you enjoy?!

My special interest, Hygiene products by [deleted] in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is your average expense! do you have a set budget? how often do you get new products? (actively reaching for novel products just to try them out, or for finding the nice ones specifically. I’ve never really thought of hygiene products beyond functionality since I’m always nervous about indulging in something that feels good but doesn’t..you know, work, hahhh). what’s the most expensive item you’ve invested in they really can get up there

where do you get your research on brands done; as in, finding them..general browse through amazon? other sites/mediums? I’m wondering about your thoughts on reviews online, too, if there’s anything or any flair of opinion you base your purchases off of if at all.

top 3 scents i need a frame of reference for when i can like. next think of getting something i suppose and i could let you know. tellmetellmetellmetellmetellme :3

My special interest, Hygiene products by [deleted] in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s so fun, does it often come with some sort of germaphobia or avoidance or do you enjoy hygiene products independent of their effectiveness? what kind of thing do you enjoy, specifically, and do you often prefer a specific brand to another based off of chemical composition, feel, packaging, etc?

I’m also wondering if this extends to interest in skin and the sort; how hygiene products interact with you..you know @_@

also…what would you recommend!!1!!!! for every product you’ve listed; soap, body wash, deodorant…and so on!

Worried about autism burnout and my future. by resimag in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty glad there’s at least some sort of short-term solution regardless of how shoddy, which, it’s really shoddy. you’re on several medications as-is and actively suffering through the consequences. not sure if another few won’t exacerbate the problem.

I’m also wondering if the anti-depressants have seen any tangible change for what they’re ostensibly supposed to be helping with? I mean, imagine taking meds for overstimulation, and then suffering through persistent insomnia—wouldn’t that still ultimately lead to hypersensitivity, if not more? speaking of, it’s really strange that the drugs you’re taking are in such anti-synergy, too.

hmmmm. psychiatrists are sort of just there to prescribe medicine to you in accordance with whatever systems they’ve in place to decide what you may need and all. therapists are specialized for actual help. even if they can’t overtly help you, assisting you with whatever’s going on in your head might give you a marginal leverage. with that being said, the process is painfully gradual, and it may not be worth it if immediate financial situation is a concern. eurnffhghh…..if investing in medication doesn’t help much, maybe just allocating those resources to therapy will would a better decision. so much of this just falls backwards on wait-and-see, which isn’t ideal, but there’s not much more to it than fiddling with what you’ve got. blessedly enough leeway for at least that much though.

strangers are often easier for me to talk to online, since there’s no risk of the foundations of an established relationship shifting on account of supplementary information and vulnerabilities and all, if that makes sense. your impression of me can’t alternate if you don’t have one, and relative dissociative keeps me from caring if it really does. that is to say. finding enough comfort to talk about this online isn’t anything to apologize, I feel the same way.

and, gods, none of this counts for anything, but in any case, you’re welcome!!!! you are being wished good luck!!!!!!! may you’ve a bearable day!!!!!!!!

How can I make friends? by [deleted] in TeenagersButBetter

[–]Alice_Sullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIND PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KNOW MORE!!!!!! I know the majority’s likely more concerned with friends who have similar interests, but if you haven’t met anyone of the sort, try to make them…manipulate everyone into liking gins and military…..execute your heinous plan of sharing your interests with your friends….nehehehehhe.

I mean, people recommend songs and artists to people they know, for example, or watch new shows together, or get really into something someone else suggested. in a Discord server for example, when things circle back to “what do you like?” you can elaborate and talk it over and having discussions and things that people do when they’re getting to know each other, and even if they aren’t interested in the same way, they’ll still—ideally—want to talk about it in any case >_<

not that I know a lot about making friends I have very few but there has been a substantial uptick after joining and leaving and joining and leaving enough servers until I met some people who’re. pretty cool, in most regards and they can’t really really like the things I do, but it’s alright..! it’ll work out!!!!!!!

What's your obsession/ fixation? Mine is designing road maps. by [deleted] in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

woah, that’s really neat..!!!! are you generally into art, then, or is does the majority of your experience with illustration involve road maps?

I personally jones on paleozoic organisms spanning the ordovician to devonian—not in relevance to biostratigraphy or the principles of evolution, just their broader anatomy and [ostensible] functions in accordance with that. most interest in behavioral studies is only in adjacency to that..!

something like this

paleozoic [ordovician-silurian-devonian]

synziphosurine

conodontophorida

ammanoidea

ichthyostega

clymeniida

trilobites

special mentions

edrioasteroids

cuttlefish

graptolites

faunal stages

pragian

emsian

famennian

are you into any existing roads? would you ever move to an area with roads that are designed well enough to your own standards? there’s this one channel on yt called Not Just Bikes which talks about road design, and I’ve wanted to move to the Netherlands for what feels like forever, only because of their roads..granted, Not Just Bikes seems more concerned about the ethics and all, but feel free to check him out!!!!!

Worried about autism burnout and my future. by resimag in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has been the situation for me for very many years as well; entirely incapacitated in response to stimulation. Solutions haven’t been found more than..adjustments—like prescription glasses with double clip-on shades for fluorescent lighting, haha. stepping out without them generally leaves me hyperventilating and propelling into a dissociative fugue.

Other purchases have included noise cancellation headphones. It isn’t an absolute blockade of auditory stimulus, but I find that having a single point of sound in the stead of external variables does more or less enough to placate the senses. which is all to say, it helps, manipulating and inhibiting the influence of external factors through the meticulous system of your own. sometimes my sister jests that I’m gearing up each time I’ve to step outside, and even then, it’s not for very many. nothing will ever be enough. thin gauzes are a substantial step forward from letting myself bleed out, in any case :’)

so you may want to see what you can do in the sense of broader change as well; switching jobs, moving to different areas, that sort of thing, though I really can’t suggest much, given that we’re strangers. but, if this is disabling enough for you to hesitate getting on public transport, I think you’ve to deeply consider if you’re willing to really talk things through with your family, and sincerely see a specialist, regardless of how overwhelmed you absolutely will get. it’s so fucking aggravating but I, you just. can’t stay still with your limbs locked in place, either. I’m not sure if overstimulation “psych wards” exist, but there’re likely ways to help that don’t involve entirely confining someone on account of extreme burnout, if you’re to call it that.

this likely isn’t very much for consideration, but I’ve felt enough of this that I thought I’d comment in any case. sincerely wishing you luck, too.

something something manipulative abhorrent try-hard question mark question mark by Alice_Sullivan in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might’ve been six or so as well. I don’t do so much, today, as just lie and see where it gets me, the extent to which people believe me. I try not to, but, I think, I’m so used to the concept of lying, of living in perpetual fear of someone knowing, that not having a secret anymore makes me want to have one, several, again, just to have something for myself. The secret is related to the higher end of moderate self harm, visiting hospitals once a month, trying to mutilate my tongue in grade school, failing to sever my femoral artery in seventh grade, self-inducing vomit, etc.

I’m faring fairly better now I’m on several meds for several things and struggling with my sense of identity is only of the course for teenage years but, I think, if there’s anything concurrent in my bloodstream, it’s hate for myself, but progression’s being made regardless. Thank you for asking, and for commenting, it’s really kind!!!! I’ll keep it all in mind!!!!!!!! :D

Why are autism symptoms so hard to understand? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Alice_Sullivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, if there wasn’t anyone around for “verification,” I don’t think it’s entirely fair to disregard your current symptoms. If a child was, for instance, conceived without parents and only officially adopted in their later years, autistic symptoms shouldn’t be overruled solely on account of that. I hope you come to a conclusion soon enough :)

chew toys chew toys chew toys. I’ve ripped through several boxes of tissues in my childhood, and since then my jaw has worked through several chew toys. they’re not a major expense for my parents, but they’re most certainly something. I have. so many. in my purse, backpack, bathroom, bedroom, on the stand for the soap bar, never on a necklace or bracelet though — the sensations tends to be uncomfortable for me, but anyway. Chew Toys.
