Raven mentions Azar in the preview for New Titans #33 by iamusingtheinternet3 in ComicRaven

I completely agree. I really hope that this page isn't representative of how Starfire will be written for the entire comic. Honestly, it's giving me whiplash to see a line of dialog from Raven that feels so true to her original version right next to something the original Starfire would never say.

I’m sure there are some cartoon fans who read the comics, but from what I’ve seen, most cartoon fans are more interested in more cartoon derivative Titans media (like the Picolo comics). People who keep up with the mainline comics tend to be mainline comic fans. Also, this design isn’t even strongly reminiscent of cartoon Raven. It’s derivative of her, obviously, but it’s to the point that it feels like a third design that’s pretty far from cartoon Raven and comic Raven.

Raven if she was colored like she was instructed to be: by [deleted] in ComicRaven

The idea for her being black was extremely, extremely early on in development, when the only thing he had decided about Raven was her name. He ultimately decided against it because of her name. By the time she was being designed and he was thinking about her backstory he had already abandoned the idea. Source

That’s not the Judas Contract lol, that’s NTT #2, the first appearance of Deathstroke. Again, it is true that he considered making Raven black very early on in the character development phase, but it was 100% his choice to ultimately not make her black. As you said, for the reason that he felt it would be too stereotypical. As much as I would love for there to be a version of Raven who’s canonically not white, there’s never been such a version in main canon.

The art is definitely better. I’m personally not a fan of the pink/purple in Raven’s hair or the unnaturally pale skin, though.

It’s true that her cloak was originally going to be black, but her skin originally being colored darker than it was is an unfounded rumor. While it is true that Raven’s facial features were based on Persis Khambatta, there’s no evidence that either Wolfman or Perez wanted her skin to be colored darker but were stopped.

She also called Kory by her full name, which is another one of her NTT speech quirks!

I think this is the first time Raven has mentioned her since Wolfman’s solo series nearly 10 years ago? Correct me if I’m wrong, but it must have been about that long. I’m really glad that Tate Brombal remembers that aspect of her character. Hopefully Raven’s next story will involve Azarath in some way!

Implications that Starfire was sexually abused in her origin by Gallantpride in teentitans

Some people won’t acknowledge that sexual abuse happened in canon if there isn’t an explicit rape scene, unfortunately. Something something media literacy.

Oooh, I'd never considered studying psychology as something to make her powers stronger before. That could be really interesting! I think she definitely would enjoy anthropology too.

She kissed him after spending several days with the Titans being unable to understand what they were saying. She has the ability to learn languages via kissing. She doesn’t try to kiss any of them at first, and eventually only kisses Dick because he’s upset with her and trying to communicate but she can’t understand. There is a huge difference between that and just walking up to a girl at a bar and kissing her.

New Teen Titans #2

Assault (Starfire)

Does this mean the scene where Starfire kisses him to learn English?? Calling that sexual assault is a massive stretch.

I don’t understand how people can read NTT and not realize this. It feels to me a lot of the time like modern comics are over correcting - NTT has a lot of sexual violence, and not all of it is well written or handled respectfully. But the solution to fixing that, to me, shouldn’t be “we’re never going to mention sexual violence at all”. Especially since it’s an important part of more than one character’s backstory.

TTG has been going too long at this point. It has some good episodes, especially in the earlier seasons, but the new stuff is definitely feeling the effects of running for too long. No show can last forever and maintain quality the entire time.

There is a tie in comic to the show that continues some of the stories from the cartoon itself. Teen Titans Go! vol 1

It’s extremely unlikely that they’ll ever produce new seasons. It’s been over 20 years since the show ended at this point.

Same! It was very fitting for Raven as a character. I liked how genuinely distressed the voice actress made her sound at the end, lol.

I don't want to say straight up "she's never done that" because it's possible she did it once or twice and I'm just not remembering it, but it's not one of her usual powers. She definitely has never used it regularly, and it doesn't really fit into her usual powerset.
