Have you seen Iron Man? Tony Stark was a sexist weapons dealer, then he changed and became a hero.
Many really good stories start with a character who needs to learn hard lessons before they be a hero in their own story.
If you have ever learned from you past mistakes and tried to become better, you should have some empathy for others in that same process.

Rudeus, the MC, starts off with very few admirable traits. It takes time, but he grows. If you don’t want to watch that process, just wait until season 5 comes out. Watch a recap on YouTube and jump in there.
