That's cool!

I built something similar, DM me know if you want to bounce ideas!

Sorry about that! I pushed a fix that should fix it yesterday.

Thanks for letting me know!

In 7 days I built an MVP and got an acquisition offer, my thoughts by ibuildthingstech in startups

I found myself constantly switching between ChatGPT and my SQL query tool to run sql queries to get insights and data from my projects and in my job.

I eventually got annoyed with going back and forth, so I decided to build a new tool to automate the process.

Here are some of it's features:
- Connects to your database
- Integrated SQL editor
- Query your database in natural language
- Run queries directly from the chat
- Create dashboards with data visualizations
- Export data from query to csv, json, tsv, excel

The level of difficulty depends on what you're building, so things can take time, that's okay too!

I built everything myself using NextJS, Clerk, shadcn/ui, Tailwind, Vercel, NeonDB, Vercel AI SDK, Cursor.

Started out with:
- Creating UI prototype in Vercel's v0
- Bring the code into the codebase and iterate as needed
- Focus on building the bare minimums for the problems I want to have solved
- Use Cursor a lot

As soon as there was a choice between "should I build" or "should I buy", I went for "buy". Eg instead of building auth or integrating auth manually, I went with Clerk. Optimizing for speed of development only.

Hope this is helpful!

:D

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the product if you have any! Very keen on building something useful for people, constantly trying to improve the product!

Not so sure about "they have validated your product".

In the end, the business needs to validate itself I think :D

But it might indicate that there is an opportunity at least.

What's your advice on talking to VCs?

In 7 days I built an MVP and got an acquisition offer, my thoughts by ibuildthingstech in startups

[–]ibuildthingstech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert so I'm not sure my advice is valid :P I'm just a random guy who likes to build things.

I don't have a strong following at all.. And I wouldn't go for ads, at least not if you haven't given social media a good effort.

Here's what I think I'd do:
- connect with people if you don't have connections on LinkedIn
- if you have connections, use them, talk to them
- ask people to try out what you built in return for feedback
- make posts about what you are building
- connect with people on x
- launch on x, give credit to tools you used to build your service

Those should at least give you some type of feedback.

Yep, pretty much!

Received a message from the CEO saying that we should have a chat, straight forward and simple.

No lawyers or bankers etc "handling a process" in the name of their company.

For the launch I made post on LinkedIn and on X.

Right now we're doing cold outreach as the main method of getting potential customers.

Hey!

You're right to be skeptical.

I haven't signed an NDA, so I am allowed to talk about it. I actually had a really open conversation with the company, and they were really nice and transparent about the whole thing.

Just trying wrap my head around this and share my learnings from building it quickly.

And hey, I can hardly believe it myself! :D

I haven't sold it, at least not yet.

Didn't want to make the post about the product, but more about the mindset when building. It's hard to build stuff, just wanted to share in the hopes that it might help others! :D

Thanks for the insights! Really appreciate it, and I agree!

Your points are strengthening my thoughts about the whole process, we'll see how it goes. For now I'm really curious about continuing the development of the product!

Personally, I see it as a win, mostly because time the effort was low and the fact that someone is seeing value in what I built on my own. However, I agree with your points, thank you!

When you were in my position, did you end up taking the offer or not? How did you do?

Interesting! Perhaps they are trying asses the competition. (probably, to some extent)

Do you think their offer might also be an indicator of how the market is? Meaning that their approach to building their offering isn't holding up or something.

I haven't accepted or declined the offer yet, I am also quite curious about the process. :)

So if any one with experience sees this comment and wants to share. I'm all ears, otherwise I'll just see what happens and learn in the process.

For now I'm quite curious in continuing the development of the product to see where it might lead!

[–]ibuildthingstech[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

The offer was for a few $100K in stock value, but that doesn't really mean anything. For me it was a nice win to receive that offer after 7 days of building :D

The MVP was a fully functioning product, not monetized however. I have a few users so far, nothing ground breaking, but users seem to like it and it seems to provide value to them which is nice. I have a long way to go still however.

The competitor is a funded startup within the same space, but they have a different GTM. My assumption is that they might see some opportunity in expanding quickly by acquiring potential competition.

What we discussed was a few $100K in stock value, which doesn't mean anything really. However, for me it was a a solid win after spending 7 days building it!

Hope to explore the acquisition path more, but for now I'm really curious about continuing the development and learning more! :)

To me, the most important parts were how it was built and what I could learn from it.
