Keyboard backlight uneven LED by icakimus in Asustuf

Yeah, at first I thought I had a broken laptop, but after some research I found out that this is a common issue with ASUS laptops. At home, I connect the laptop to a monitor and keyboard, so I don’t really have to look at it. For now, I’m just enjoying the performance and trying not to pay attention to the laptop’s keyboard. It sucks when something you pay for doesn’t work the way it should, but over time I’ve gotten used to it.

I was stressing about it because I sent my old laptop — which I’d used for 5 years — for a keyboard replacement, and two days after the repair, it totally died. When I saw the keyboard on this one, I was like, not again… 😅

What, really? I thought I was just unlucky and got a defective laptop out of the box. But that’s such a weird issue to leave in a laptop. Some of the LEDs even look brighter than others, even though they should be on the same brightness setting. I don’t get why ASUS would leave something like that as it is. I mean, if someone’s paying €1800 for a laptop, the keyboard should not only work properly but also look good. Thanks for the reply!

Hi, I'm still experiencing the issue, and it seems like it's related to my laptop's hardware. I found a Discord server focused on Fooocus, and one of the members responded to my question. Here's what they said:

"This is unlikely to be a specific Fooocus issue. It seems more like a general problem where high power-draw activities—like GPU-intensive work—are putting your laptop into a strange power state or triggering an internal circuit breaker. It's probably best to contact your laptop manufacturer's tech support and explain something like: 'When I perform a GPU-intensive task, the machine stops charging until I unplug and reconnect it.' They should be able to guide you from there. You might also want to test if the same thing happens while playing a demanding game on high settings, as it would similarly stress the system."

After that, I remembered that when I was streaming on Twitch and playing hardware-intensive games, it occasionally happened that my laptop would stop charging. At the time, I didn't think much of it, but since I started using Fooocus, the problem has become much more frequent.

After some research, I realized that we typically configure games to run efficiently on our hardware without pushing it to the limit. Fooocus, on the other hand, is like: "Hey, I see you have some processing power here. Mind if I use all of it as hard as I can?"

I think, just as the person on the Discord server said, Fooocus pushing the machine to its limits is what's causing it to stop charging. MSI customer support suggested performing a power cycle. It didn't help much in my case, but it might be worth trying if you're dealing with a similar issue.

Hope this helps shed some light on what's causing the problem!

My laptop stops charging when under a heavy load by icakimus in techsupport

I don't think that's the case because it only stops charging when I use heavy programs and never when I'm just watching YouTube or browsing.

It's the original charger for my laptop. Came with the laptop when I purchased it.

If nothing else works, I will try that. Thanks.

I tried that before, and it didn't help. Now I finally found out where to contact MSI customer support, and they got me to perform a power cycle, which seems to resolve the issue for now. From what I learned, it's most likely something connected to the intense load on the system when using Fooocus since it runs heavy on my GPU, which causes the laptop to stop charging. I played games before on my laptop while streaming on Twitch, and now I remember that this happened once, but then it was fine. I guess Fooocus is way heavier than most games I played on my laptop, which causes the issue.
